Hey folks,

I wanted some opinions. I was looking at getting a garmin striker 5cv. I think the price point is pretty good at ~$260. But now I am looking at getting the striker 7sv, its about 200 more. Does having a front SV help a lot?

I will eventually get a echoMAP CHIRP 94sv for the console ff but that will take a while to save up for.

With the side looking imaging, the larger the display, the better. That is because you choose how much coverage, unlike 2D sonar and the downlooking imaging that is based on the depth.

Don't know if Garmins are as adjustable as Humminbirds are, but if similar, it is a great fishing tool as well as a search tool. I use Side Imaging at the bow a lot more than 2D sonar and rarely use Down Imaging. Being able to see "over there" while fishing has led to a lot more success with catching than just seeing "down there".
Also depends on how you fish and how deep.

My opinion...no need for SI on front of the boat...but that's just me. You will use SI at the console much more than you will ever use it on the TM.

Spend your money on SI at the console, and then a decent DI on the front to stay on what you found at the console...and you'll be good to go wink

I have SideVu on the front as well as the console. I really don't use it very much up front, opting for Panoptix in searching to the side or front. I would however agree that bigger is better whether SideVu or ClearVu and 2D sonar. It's just a lot easier to see smaller items such as fish!

Age old question. I run SI up front on mine. I fish a lot of boat docks and it tends to be handy when locating brush around them without driving by and then going back to fish them. I do mark them when I find them for future reference.

721 that is one of the big advantages of Panoptix. Your don't even have to idle by brush piles. You can look ahead or to the side and see them well before you are upon them. If I didn't have Panoptix then I would probably use SideVu more on the trolling motor.

All good, but I have had Humminbirds for years. Not planning on going to their 360 anytime soon. A lot of the brushpiles on Conroe are not out in front, but they tuck them up around the boat dock. Sneaky suckers! I will say the Panoptix is a cool feature. Hard to keep up with them anymore.

360 and Panoptix are completely different. Panoptix is real time and you can see fish moving. And you can see brush piles under docks with it. Not trying to argue but just inform. Good fishing.
