What exactly does the Minn Kota heading sensor do? Is the sole purpose of the Minn Kota heading sensor to let the trolling motor know which way the front of the boat is? Is there any other purpose?

That heading sensor is to determine direction since GPS cannot calculate direction without moving. Same as any other heading sensor. Its function is for the jogging feature. Jog left, jog right, etc.

Besides the jog feature, the heading sensor also enhances the gps functions when using the "navigate to" and spotlock. It may also be used in future updates as well. John
