On a weekend like this with the first big winds out of the north, is it better to find a southern bank that is being hit by that north wind or better to hit a northern bank that is somewhat sheltered from that wind?
Or better to get into a creek?
These are 10-12 mph winds so they aren’t brutal.

The south banks would be my first pick, followed by creeks, followed by protected north banks.

On Waco, Belton and Stillhouse right now it's more about finding the shad than the wind. Based on past couple of days weather I would begin looking for bait concentrations around brush in coves and in the first 1/4 section of creeks/river.

Normally, the bait follow the plankton to eat. But not always. If you have a consistent wind out of any direction, it is best to follow the wind to the shore it is blowing into, regardless of which direction it is. The shad follow the plankton that is being blown around and the fish follow the shad. Pretty simple, but not always the case, like brush and rip rap, the plankton does not blow off of them except in extreme circumstances. It takes a while to move the plankton as well, so after a day of blowing winds, I would check out the side of the lake where the wind is blowing into. Then the other side and then creeks. At least, that is the way I approach it. Hope this helps. Tight lines, keep safe and good luck.

Will be hitting Waco tommorow. Wind is suppose to be out of the NW. So I will scout the points along the East and South. Then plan to move to the creek areas.

Wind beat me to death even tho internet said it was 12-13 mph. They need to give local wind speed and Lake Waco wind speed. They are always different!

The thing about wind blown areas is they do not get fished as much. I mark these spots down for when the lake allows me to fish them. I head there immediately to take advantage of those spots that only get 1/3 the pressure of protected spots. In doing my mapping work these spots are on the North West side of the lake where the river channel moves to that side. The contours there are always the best; but the areas are taking the full force of the wind coming out of the South East. Always keep them in mind, when the time is right.

Got on Lake Waco Sunday around 7:30 am, was pretty cold. We fished the area around Speeglevile ramp, hitting The submerged timber before the wind ( which had shifted to the SW) picked up. I am not real good with a heavy wind around some of those stump fields, especially below the Hwy 6 bridge. We didn't get a single bite. Went out to the bigger water and worked some of the points. Positioned the boat headed into the wind and threw some crank baits, then tried a couple of Don Harpers baby doll jigs. Son in law in back seat threw spinnerbaits and some medium crank baits. I finished up casting the points with some white and silver shad colored chatterbaits. I'm a big fan of those because you get immediate feedback when retrieving. Only had a couple bites on those, and they felt like dinks.
After 1:00 wind had picked up pretty good, three foot white caps in the main body so I ran up to the cove area near the dam, under the Lake Shore bridge. It was nice to get out of the rough stuff for awhile. Worked both banks with a t-rigged red and black swirl tail worm, still no bites. Ran one bank with a shallow crank and had a couple bites, ran the other bank with a medium crank bait and landed four large mouths, but all under 14 inches. It was about 4:30 so just called it a day.

Next time pull the Kitchen Sink out of the house and take it with you. Tie it on and drag it behind the boat. That way you can say, you threw everything including the kitchen sink.

Well a 10-12 mph wind on Rayburn would be pretty rough depending on the direction and the distance the waves had to build. Main lake fishing on large lakes will get much rougher faster than smaller bodies of water. That said there's a lot to consider before making the decision to fish a wind beaten bank or point irreguardless of the bait. The drain on your trolling motor batteries, safety, stumps just below the surface. I can fish out deep with waves washing barely over the bow in open water but when I'm captaining for high school I have one prone to motion sickness. If I'm finishing skinny water then I have my trolling motor beating on the bottom to consider. I try to find main lake water semi protected or just out of force of the wind during such conditions. On Naconiche it would be wise to stay away from the standing timer on windy days. If I'm going to be flipping brush or shoreline cover then I'm going to troll into the wind and directly or at an angle if possible to keep from blowing out the the cover. So I'm very selective on the cover and my approach on windy days.

good rule of thumb is fish the windiest areas you can fish safely and (somewhat) comfortably given the body of water, your boat/equipment, and your physical abilities.

This time of year I look for the wind blown points. The shad will be on those points and the bass will be right there. November is the best time for numbers in situations like that. It is taxing on your trolling motor and difficult to control the boat but the fishing should be good. If it is just too windy you might try behind a wind blown point in the slack area and cast to the point. If it is crazy windy then watch college football.
