If you really want to try it, he has a pre order option you can do in advance on his website. You must order a minimum of 5 lbs and you can't eat it on site (tables are for those who waited in line). A few buddies and I do that every now and then and just take the lunch to a nearby park to consume. The last two times I have done this I was in and out in 10 minutes.

How much did that five pounds cost you?

I broke down and tried Muellers in Taylor after seeing it showcased on Diners, Drive Ins, & Dives. It was OK, but it wasn't $18/lb BBQ. So far the best is mine, smoked on a New Braunfels Smoker from Academy, fired with a propane burner for constant heat under a pan of Oak or Hickory, rubbed with a mix of Texjoy Steak Seasoning and BBQ rub right out of the bottle and cooked for 12 hours or until it falls apart, whichever comes first.

Never was very good, going back to the middle 60's.

For those in the Temple/Waco area, or passing through with an evening to kill, there's Cyclone BBQ. About 20 miles outside Temple on OLd 53 towards Westphalia. Good BBQ served family style, so it's more fun with a big group. Open Saturday and Sunday until late October. Opens again in April. It's "open air" but it is covered so don't let rain scare you away. For a good time Google "Cyclone BBQ."

Mullers in Taylor, Kreuz Market in Lockart, Black's in Lockhart and Snows in Lexington.
Can't go wrong.

I just tried Ingrams in LLano for the first time and it was pretty good and a whole lot cheaper then Cooper's.

There's a small place called "It's All Good" on Hwy 71 west of Austin before you cross the Pedernales, and It's all GOOD!

Wife and I stopped there and got 1 beef rib each, we split a mac and cheese, which sucked, and a cobbler.
Both had water. Girl rang it up and I'd 47.80!
Had her double check it and she said yep it was right.
No more for me at both Coopers or Hard Eight.

Beef rib prices have gotten completely out of hand at most of the bigger name BBQ places. Heim BBQ in Ft. Worth is getting $22 bucks a pound for them. Average weight is 1 1/2 - 2lbs. each, which means the price runs around $35-$45 bucks per rib. Love me some slow-smoked beef ribs but at those prices, I'm out.

Laird's or Inmans is better food in Llano.

Or for it to be rebuilt. It burned down.

If I'm on the road, Blacks in Lockhart is tough to beat. A buddy and I tried Muellers in Taylor because it was featured on DD&D. I was very disappointed for all the hype it got. It was OK, but it wasn't $18/lb good.
To me, the best brisket and pork butt come off my smoker. Smoking meat ain't rocket science. I have a $150 New Braunfuls smoker from Academy that I heat with a propane burner and a wood pan on top of it. I fire it off, go to bed, get up the next morning and put more wood on it. 12 hours on my smoker and you have to take it off the grill with a spatula. The smoke is what flavors the meat so it doesn't matter what the heat source is, heat is heat. 325 for 12 hours and it's good to go.
