Razorback, I don't know of any place to launch on 1948. The water is up to the side of the road near Jardelle. The only place I have seen people launching is at Welsh park from the bank. Last year they opened up Lake Somerville Marina boat ramp when the water got down to about 10 feet above normal. The lake level is 10.3 feet above normal now so you might give them a call and see when they expect to reopen the boat ramp.

No, I'm aware you are alive. It is very painful to know that I rank below a statue named Hobo Bob and a kitten name Bugs Buddy though grin

Thanks. I called them and the marina does not plan to open their ramp until next weekend (weekend of October 14-15). Very frustrating...

Is the marina open, can you even get on it walking?

Will answer my own question, yes it is.

I've been out in the kayak the last 3 evenings. Last year I couldn't paddle upstream against that 2300 cfs flow in my Moken 10. But it's not a problem in the Native I bought.

There was no cloud cover yesterday so the white bass weren't surfacing early like the previous days. So I put on a pair of flies and fished deep. I ended up catching lots of doubles. 5 casts in a row with doubles on at one point. Usually one undersized and one about 11 inches.

There are lots of small fish but a stringer of 10 to 12 inch fish is possible. I haven't been catching many of those 13.5 to 14.5 inch fish we usually catch during the white bass run.

Anyone know if there is any crappie action at the Marina?

It's been a couple weeks since I was there. The reports at that time were poor.

Trey, I went and checked this morning. There were about 20 people or so fishing. Which is a good indication some fish are being caught. I watched them fish for about 15 to 20 minutes. I saw 2 fish caught, both undersized. It wasn't worth my time so I left.

I launched the Yak from 36 bridge and fished upstream again on Saturday morning and Saturday evening. In the morning, the fishing was slow. I caught about 20 white bass between 7 and 11 am. Half of them undersized. The guys fishing with me with conventional gear couldn't even get a bite until we got back to the 36 bridge. We found a few fish biting under the bridge.

In the afternoon I started at the bridge with no luck so I headed upstream again. As the evening approached the fishing was on fire flame I caught 31 using a single fly. If I had been using a pair I could have caught a lot more. This time the fish were much bigger. I caught alot of 13 inch plus fish. Only 5 of the 31 were undersized. I spoke to someone who fished on the rocks at the dam. He had actually caught some even bigger white bass in the 14 inch plus range.

There are also reports of a lot of 16 lb. blue cats being caught at night in the creek.

Bad news is we are losing a lot of good fish from the lake that we will never get back. It should be combat fishing at it's finest when they reopen the spillway.

LOL, I was there to, on the boat docks. Came out of there with 6 keepers.
One guy fishing in the square dock snagged 2 really nice slabs, 14-1/2 and the other just under 15".
Wasn't easy fishing, they are scattered from 5' to 15'. SO couldn't get a specific depth on em.

I paddled upstream from 36 bridge again yesterday. I launched about 4:30 PM. It was hot and the fishing was dead when I started. There were water turkeys in the creek gorging on the shad. When I was paddling upstream I thought it was white bass chasing shad. Darn birds never got full all evening either. They just keep gorging themselves.

There were lots of big gar around. The gar have been feeding on the shoreline. I caught a couple last week, as well as, a couple crappie and lmb throwing the fly up against the bank. I hooked into a gar last night. I fought it for a while, I had to give it line and it started to pull me around for a bit. After a short time I got impatient, as normal, and started to horse it up to the surface to see what I had hooked into. When I got it to the surface my eyes got big. It was the biggest long nose I had ever seen. It turned it's head, snapped the 8 lb. test line and took my magical clouser with it bang

Finally, as the sun started to set the white bass turned on. It was non-stop for about 30 to 45 minutes and then it quite again. I caught about 15 to 20 fish. Only one was undersized. The biggest was 14.5 inch / 1.5 lbs.

I hit the Yegua again this evening. The fishing was on fire flame I had the entire place to myself. Darn shame I keep running off all my fishing buddies cry

I've fished it enough now that I've narrowed down the presentation, as well as, a couple areas in which I can catch some slightly bigger fish over 12 inches.

I even caught one that went 16 1/4 tonight. About another month of flow. Then it will be time to hit the other end of the lake and fish for big crappie

banana

Lake Level is 243.5 ft. 5.5 feet above normal.

I took a tour of the creeks, Cedar (Flag Pond road), Nails (CR 125) and the Yeagua (CR 124) at Irwin Bridge. The creeks are within the banks and receding. Hopefully they will be fishable in a couple weeks.
