Seen Whitney is still on fire, was wondering about PK. Will be out there next weekend for the entire weekend and will have boat in tow. Have the fish been hitting early AM?

We have fished PK relatively hard for past two weeks with dismal results. A few stripers taken up to 4 lbs. sand bass are relatively easy, north and around Costello just off river channel on flats. Find them in the trees and pull them out by drifting slab over the tops of trees. Also, starting to hit small jig head and fluke.

The past two weeks have been tough for me as well. They seem very boat shy and move off fast if you find them. We caught several 15-16 Stripers mixed in with sand bass with an occasional barely legal fish on slabs and jigs. The sand bass we have been catching seem skinny to what we were catching a month or so back. Catching decent size bait has been a little tough as well.

I caught a few nice stripers under a deep dock at the Harbor. I went in there fishing for crappie. When I ran out of minnows I caught some shad in the back of the cove and returned and it was on. It's a serious hoot to catch a 6-10 pound striper on a 10 foot crappie pole. The pro anglers I'm using can take it but it makes a scary bend.

The takeaway from this is:

1. NADA on shiners. Stripers normally don't seem to want them anymore.
2. If you have shad, all you need is to find the stripers and its on. The fish loitering 30-40 feet under that dock which would not touch a shiner instantly took those shad. barely got the rod into the holder before it bent double.
3. Shad are hard to find for me anymore. ( I assume this is because we are overrun with thousands of 14-16 inch stripers)

All the reports I've seen say fishing is better up lake around broadway to costello.

I had a tough day last Saturday. We caught four Stripers in five minutes. The biggest took off but the other three caused a mess.. Landed all four and retied the hooks.
Went back and got two more on that got off.
Not another bite until 11:30

Shad are plentiful at night on the upper end of PK. I caught 50 hand size gizzards tonight in an hour.
I did notice the threadfins are shallow. Most likely getting ready for there fall spawn. When they hit the bank the stripers will follow. Should be some good topwater soon.

May be time to fish shallow......water temp tonight was 73.
its fixing to be on guys if it's not all ready!
Can't wait to fish in the morning!

Thanks for those tips Randy. maybe sometime you can show me where you are getting those Shad. I seem to have no problems with Stripers once I have their meal of choice. If I can't catch any maybe you could sell me a couple doz.

I sure feel sorry for you with four stipers on at the same time. I bet that was a bad tangle.

Limit of Ten by 8:30
We left there and went up the lake for a few Sand Bass.
The Stripers were in 20-27 ft of water. Getting shallower every day. Water temp was 73 grin
Should be even better fishing when it drops below 70.
Of course I'll be in a deer blind by then.

Myself and three friends fished today with the bait leftover from yesterday.
Caught eleven fish. Just couldn't get the other four before the bluebird sky set in.
All fish caught in less tha 25ft of water.

Wow! Awesome report gentlemen! Im excited to see the water temps failing. Ill be in a house off a point east off Sky Camp. There are 2 peninsulas off that house with a "deep" water dock that i plan to cover intensely.

Those are some big fish!!! Congrats

Report, well not much of a report but here goes. Shad was easy to find, but only got love from the kitties.

Wow! I may need to go up to rock creek camp and get some shad. If I have shad stripers are easy.

Good report. I hope to go up there this weekend. Forecast looks warm.
