I am finally buying another boat and hopefully will have it this week. It has a 2005 Yamaha HPDI 225. What should i be running as additives in the fuel everytime i put gas in the boat? Also if you put in ethanol free gas do you need the additives, and im assuming all motors run on 87.

Run ring free in that HPDI and DO YOUR FILTER MAINTENANCE. Don't want that HPDI blowing up. Check with previous owner about their maintenance too, those motors should require 100 hour maintenance intervals. Lots of people neglect which is a big reason HPDIs blow a lot.

Yes he has done all maintenance, and just replaced the high pressure fuel pump, and filters and such. And he has all paper work to document. Is there anywhere to get a maintenance type schedule for these HPDI motors, I definitely dont want to blow it up?

Ring free is the only thing I need to run? Is that a stabilizer also, and does the HPDI run on 87 octane?

Yamaha 5 Star mechanic recommended 89 octane on HPDI as cheap insurance against detonation damage. As well as the usual
Ring Free and marine stabilizer every fill up.

HPDI's run really well on clean, moisture free fuel, and are more susceptible to moisture absorbed by ethanol than most outboards. It will eventually clog the fine filters and injectors.
Ethanol free fuel is absolutely worth using if it is available.

Order of proirity;
1. Ethanol free gas, any octane is better than any ethanol octane. Yamaha says 87 is ok. Go with whatever octane is the freshest available.
2. Synthetic blend or full synthetic oil such as Penzoil varieties will reduce carbon build up from occurring to begin with versus Yamalube that builds more carbon necessitating decarbonizing worries.
3.Regular modest or perioric higher doses of cleaning additives such as Seafoam.
4. Fuel stabilizer such as Stabil if you don't burn through a full tank of fuel within 2-3 months.

Grew up on Tawakoni and Texoma before hybrids and stripers existed on either.
