I broke my crankbait rod yesterday. It was a Duckett Laser Lure DFLL70CC 7’ Crankin model. I only used it for squarebills. I’m looking at the Quantum TKVD746MB, 7’ 4” MH to replace it for fishing 1.5 & 2.5 squarebills. What does the TFF say?

How did you break the rod? I have quite a few Ducketts and so far I've never had an issue.

Totally my fault. Rod was laying over the gunnel and I layed over it trying to get a fish that was tangled around a stump. It broke. Made me sick.

I think I've thrown more square bills in the last two yrs than I have my whole life. 13s omen 7ft moderate cranking rod is an awesome sb and shallow crankin rod.

The KVD rod is a composite rod, so I do not know if that is what you are looking for or not. I throw mine on a Dobyns 764 CB RM, but they DO have a Fury 705 CB rod that would work well, too. It is priced around $110, I think. Here is a link to it: http://dobynsrods.com/rod/fr-705cb/Good rod for what you are looking for. NOTHING wrong with the KVD rod, I just do not like composite rods for the most part. His is a step better than the similar BPS Crankin' Stick, however. Hope this helps. Tight lines, keep safe and good luck. Sorry to hear about your broken rod. Thad Rains

Not trying to be a smarta77 or anything. Honestly would like to know why a separate rod is required for a square bill as opposed to a regular crankbait.

I like a 7'9" for deep diving cb, you can just cast farther and hold that rod down and get that extra ft on diving depth. A 7 ft rod for sb makes it easier for accurate casting at certain targets for me anyway.

I want a separate rod because a squarebill is a lot different than say a 6XD.

I’d reccommend a Dobyns 705 CB (either glass or graphite depending on what you prefer and fury or champion series depending on your price range). 2.5s are really its sweet spot, but I throw a lot of 1.5s on it as well.

It's hard to beat the 7" loomis crankbait rod for a squarebill

7' medium trinity series leviathan is by far the best squarebill rod I have used. I sold my loomis cranking rods to buy 2 more after I got the first one. It's a really good rod for throwing medium diving cranks too 1.5 size.

"Required" is too strong of a word. The reasons I have a dedicated SB rod are: 1. I like always having one tied on and don't want to take off deep diving crankbait to switch to a SB 2. For deep divers a long cast is key. For SB's an accurate cast is more important. Long casts use long rods, accurate casts short(er) rods. 3. I use 12 lb fluoro for deep cranking, or smaller. I use 17lb abrazx for SB's. You can do both on the same rod but you can do it better on a dedicated setup.
