Depends. If you are gonna fish even in windy weather, I like the 60" I hate when the boat is lifting on a 16" swell and the TM prop keeps breaking water. Plus, I don't like having the TM pushed all the way down, I like the head up a bit so I can see over the front chair and know what direction it is pointed.

The 52-inch mount and the 60-inch mount are the same. At fully deployed, the 52-inch shaft requires the whole length of the mount. So if you have the 60, you have to manually raise and lower the unit every time you stow or deploy if you want it to sit any deeper in the water than the 52--not an easy thing to do out in the waves. Otherwise the 60-inch shaft leaves the motor dangling off the end of the mount. My partner bought a 60-inch and then had to go in and get the shaft cut down. I have the 52 and think it is perfect.
MK really needs a mount specifically for the 60 if they are going to sell them.

Just had the same issue. Have a 45 on a 17.5, no issues, moving to a 21 and did 52. 60, I was told if more for center console boats, off-shore, boats with high profile gunnels.

I have the 47 on my 21 foot Triton, very seldom do I have a problem, my boat sets pretty flat in the water, some boats sit with the nose up and i can see where a 52 would be better.

52" is plenty long enough in the stoutest of winds.
