We have been trying some Pline floroclear in 12 & 15 lb. My son has some 12lb on a new Falcon rod and I had it break once when pulling a knot tight and he broke off a fish yesterday in the local pond. I had checked the line and found some rough spots that we cut off prior to him fishing yesterday. This line has only been spooled up for two weeks. He is still learning and backlashes some. Can this damage the floroclear? Is there a better knot to use than a palomar?

Floroclear sucks. I bought a spool of 15lb and broke off 4 jigs in 4 bites. If you want to use copolymer use yozuri or pline cx. If he is just learning to cast though you might want to spoil up some mono. Much less memeory.
Pick up the fairy wand and have some fun...Just kidding, if you aren't throwing a jig, what are you doing???

Understand you believe light line catches more fish in clear water. In my book that doesn't hold up. I fished Amistad with water as clear as it gets with nothing less than 17# and that is just one reel out of 20. Never had a problem winning if I was on fish.

I havent had one good experience with Pline products. Ive used flourclear and mono. Broke all of the time and the mono had the worst memory Ive ever experienced out of any line so I just used it as backing until, thanks God, I finally used it all up.
And I know its not me or my knots because Ive never had a problem with any other line.
If you can't find em wind em.

I've had no so good luck with Pline, I made the switch to Seaguar and I have yet to break off a fish using their Flourocarbon (15lb and 20lb). I am OCD though about running my fingers up my line after each fish or if I get it snagged in brush to make sure there aren't any abrasion spots.

I have used the online floroclear before and don't remember any issues but backlashes can cause weak spots depending on how bad and how you clear them if the line gets too sharp of a bend or kink in it. I am pretty easy on the line when untangling it and if I see it kink then I'll cut that section off. I use the Palomar knot most of the time and never had an issue from it but be sure to wet the line before tightening.
I really like the plane cx or cxx and use it probably more than any line. 15# is pretty hard to break in my experience. I can pull my boat with it when I hang up. It seems to be much easier to untangle a backlash without damage than fluoro

I tried several fluorocarbon lines that broke just as you describe. Not all fluorocarbon line perform the same. I cannot tell you which fluorocarbon lines are the best as I have not tried them all by any means. I did find one brand which has served me well, and that would be the Seaguar brand. I use their leader material for my braided line setups. I use the Seaguar Invizx and Tatsu line for reels setup with just fluorocarbon line. I have had no problems with these lines. I am sure there are other brands which perform as well or better, but I can definitely vouch for the above fluorocarbon.

[censored], I JUST SPOOLED IT!
COMING SOON! .. THE STICKLE HOOK " the stay level sickle hook". sits level in the water with all knots.! Provides better hook sets and more natural jigging motion. No more adjusting the knot, gluing , or tying loop knots that cause the hook point to tangle in the loop, or worse knick the line.. The jighook that will make all others obsolete !

I run Flouroclear on 2 rods and have never had an issue. My son however finds way to make it break, same spool, same age of line, same pound test, and my son can manage to break it on a cast. I use PLine 100% Flouro most of the time, but I always have 2 rods (heavy T-rig, and Fluke) that I use Flouroclear on.

Until recently when I switched over to mainly fluorocarbon I used P Line floroclear exclusively. At first I had a lot of break offs as stated here.
A guide tipped me to "wet" my knots thoroughly. After that no more breakoff of any kind.

Thank you for all the replies! I have never had so much trouble with a line. The 15Lb. seems fine, but I'm loosing trust in it now. My have to go back to good ol green Trilene XT.
