I just purchased a boat and trailer in Louisiana, The title does not have the weight of the trailer own it nor does the paperwork , the state requires me to have the trailer weighed without the boat on it , to get a title ,How can I do this without leaving my boat alone at the lake Without having someone watch it,, this system sounds crazy to me.
Is there any easier way to do this or any way around it.

Do you have to provide proof of the weight? I would think that the manufacturer has that information.

You don't weigh the trailer. You need the trailer and the load it will carry, weight rating is normally found on the tongue on the manufacturers plate. Most singles are rated 3500 pound.
If you have a dual axle trailer its probably rated at 4500 pounds. These need yearly inspections, sad to say.

I think if you have no plate it has to be inspected before the county will let you pay its tax and give you tags.

They changed the law in September, its no longer 4501lbs and over. Its now 7501lbs and over.

yes, if not on title and La does not have weight on title. Also, any vehicle or trailer transferring from another state has to be inspected. You do not have to unload the boat. I just went through all this in July with a boat from La.. I stood there with the lady at the registration office and subtracted the boat, motor, and gear. When I went the first time they told I needed to get inspection but said no when I asked about weight. I even asked twice. Really ticked me off because I had to go home and hook up boat and haul to Loves. I had just passed Loves on the way home from fishing that morning. When I got my trailer title a week or 2 later I was surprised to see only the trailer weight listed and the gross weight blank. I was glad because my tag says 7500 lbs and loaded trailer scales at 4620. At first I was trying to think of all the things I could have take out of the boat to make it lighter. It did not help that I had 50 gallons of gas. Trucker said "take it home and siphon some gas out". He also said to unhook it. I just looked at him and said why because it will just weight more.
