I come across these types of images every so often while I'm out fishing. I thought that it may be a school of sand bass or catfish or crappie (hopefully). So I stop and fish it but I have yet to ever get a bite. After several minutes of nothing I just move on. Wondering if any of you could tell me what I'm seeing.

Those first two pictures look like a big school of white bass with a couple of bait balls hanging around also.
Fishin' to stock Lake Crisco.

Looks like a bunch of fish (probably sandbass) feeding on shad. Shad school is all broken up. These fish are on the move and are almost impossible to keep up with and catch. Don't bother. About the only chance would be to troll the area. Not worth the effort.

When I first saw these on my unit, I thought it might be a school of sand bass but I could never get a bite. I tried looking at it with my side and down imaging but I didn't see anything. Maybe they had all moved out by the time I could switch over to DI & SI and turn the boat around for another pass.

Thanks for the input Captain Yakker and Ernest! That makes me feel better knowing that y'all are seeing the same thing that I initially thought when those images scrolled across my unit. As much as would have liked to stop and catch some, I'm at glad to know why I wasn't catching any or getting any bites. I haven't spent near enough time (hardly any actually) just scouting lakes and learning to really find fish and recognize the different things that come across my unit. Thanks again for the insight!

Yup... Sandbass. It looks like you might want to adjust the settings a bit also.

This time of the year it could be a big school of gizzard shad. They would be 10 to 12 inches long and they spread out like that. Would be impossible to catch without a cast net.

Looks like you were hitting a bunch of waves during some of those screen shots judging by the bottom contour sharp and rythmic humps and lines going up/down so lots of artifact and indistinct arcs and images. May try running with 2D/DI split screen to help with target separation along with bump some of sensitivity down a few points to clear the image up.

If I remember correctly, the water was choppy that day when I took these images.

Take a look at your transducer and see if it is the right position. It may be tilted too much and not running level in the water.
