I have a really nice drone (quad-copter) and was thinking of taking it with me next week. This way I can do some aerial shots of me not catching fish just like all of my go pro video of me not catching fish. Just wondered if anyone out there had experience flying it over water, some say you want to make some adjustments in the settings. If so, it's a DJI Phantom 4.

I have. Be careful when you're trying to land it on your boat.

Drone shots at the intro, 6:58 and 13:55. My boy nails a pretty good one at 9:05.

If you fish tournaments, be sure to check for a drone rule...

I know that back in the day Rick Clunn used to charter a helicopter to lay eyes on the lake before fishing a tournament.

Strampion - good stuff of your son about 9:30 in, fish gave that zebco heck.

My son has a nice one and videoed me and my other son from the bank, cool video and easy because not trying to land the land on the boat deck when you have a photographer buddy. I take one quail hunting to follow the dogs too, controller and drone take a lot of room and a hassle in both cases. The new DJI Mavik Pro is smaller and a great drone tho if you are going to buy one

I have taken mine several times fishing. Wouldn't advise landing on front deck if windy though. I started out on a small lake so I wouldn't get turned around. As you know, very easy to get turned around in the air. I took aerials of lake Holbrook and Twok.

Heck naw. I have a radio built into my boat and I dont even listen to that. All Im thinking about is fishing. That would be cool if you had someone on the boat with you operating a drone though.

If you can't find em wind em.

It would be a good search tool for looking at aerial shots of a lake instead of running all over the lake with the boat on lakes that you are not familiar with. If I had one, I would sure use it, even on lakes I already know.

Would be a great idea for locating bed fish during the spring. I ran the camera boat for a charity event recently, the Careco videographer had a drone in his bag of tricks. Pretty neat watching him do his thing. Instead of landing it on the deck of the boat he would ease it down to his free hand and grab it. He took video of fishing action as well as following the boats for a few as they put it on pad. Looking forward to seeing the footage when they air the event.

funny you mention that. a friend of mine took his new drone out with him on a day of fun-fishing this spring, just to play around with it. sent the thing up in the air to film them while they worked on a bed fish. When they got to watching the footage later, turns out there was a huge female sitting off to the side of the bed that they never saw. Of course they caught the male that was on the bed, but they couldn't believe they missed the big one just off to the side.
