Anybody doing any good? Are there fish schooling in shallow water, or are they all still out deep?

Fished Tuesday pm and Wednesday am with live shad and slabs from Dam to Silver creek. 3 fisherman 1 9" catfish and about 10 nibbles. Weather was a masterpiece. Fishing was a master disaster.

I only fished Buchanna once - in 1995. Didn't know how to fish the lake. Fished a lot of deep water, but nada. I finally managed to catch a limit of whites at the 1st large underwater point moving NE from the dam. It had 15 fow out on top of the point and that's where the white bass were. I caught them on a #2 Mepps with 3/16 oz weight up the line. The lake was about 6 ft low at the time.

Been fishing Buch 2-3 times a year from 1970 through 2013. Most of my white bass success came from fishing the points and humps from Shaw Island around to Silver Creek and across to Maxwell's slough and around to Hi-Line. Never had a bunch of luck down on the southern end in the deepest part, so I just quit heading down that way and stayed on the north end around Bluffton and Tow. Always caught my fair share, except the times where flooding upstream made the lake very muddy or when the lake was 20+ feet low. Could still catch them on low lake, but you had to find different structure that was still submerged. Loved fishing it, love the Hill country.

I don't target whites but usually can catch them on jigging spoons on humps and points in 20-30 ft of water most times. There are a few down by the damn that consitantly hold fish. The points and humps south of shaw seem to be the best, at least for me. Humps close to the main channel are good to check. When looking at your graph if you see rounded bumps on the bottom like teeth of a hand saw, stop and drop a jig and give it a few minutes. Many times those are whites hugging the bottom. So many times people ar looking for the classic " hay bale" pick and just ke driving.
The long skinny Maltese minnows in chartreuse, silver and chartreuse works extremely well. This what I use 95% of time for whites. A good friend of mine, who is probably the best jig fisherman white slayer on Buchanan , uses these almost exclusively. He taught me a lot about jig fishing and white hunting.

Brandon What will the stripers be doing for next couple of months. Moving around the lake or staging in a certian area.

This time of year the stripers should start coming to the top. Once that stops they will start staging on humps and flats and moving in big schools.. I start looking at humps by the Dam and work my way north. Haven't been passed shaw in several years. . Once you get on them it's on. Once the whites start running the majority of fish move up north , especially if the Colorado is flowing and there is a good current. No or little current they stay in the main lake. If I had to key in on a certain part of the lake from Nov-Feb ,it would be from Llano Cnty to South of Shaw Island.

Few of my guide buddies said the lake recently had the fall turnover and fishing has been tough. I haven't been out but it should be getting a lot better from here on out. Fall/winter is my favorite time to fish Lady Buch

You still remember getting butt hurt for being kicked off a private dock posted with no trespassing signs?

Must have got have got his butt kicked again. Dead sticking works real well. Most guides on Buch and including myself still fish live bait though . Jumbo shiners work good during the winter. a it's miserable to go catch bait when it's freezing cold but can be done. Black salties work well during the winter months. But for dead sticking , when I've done it during the winter, I fish similar to like I would live bait but with the rods stuck in rod holders with artificials.. I just believe fish prefer the real thing.

Also cut bait works great during the winter. Double anchor on top of a hump and fan cast around the boat. Need gizzard shads for this. Cut their tales at an angle , where the fins meet the flesh. Jim Crawford , who is one of the best striper fisherman I know taught me this. Big fish technique that produces. Won't catch many but what you do catch will be worth it

It would take more than you to kick me off anything. It was a little mexican kid you big tuff guys kicked off, then you went and cussed out the wrong people on the boat ramp.
