For me the worst side effects were cramping and dehydration and that was with an increase in water only intake. I did not do the enema cleanse. I chose a 10 day pill regimen with a prescribed nutrition plan during the same 10 day period. I got more than I bargained for. It does work but I would recommend to anyone new wanting to try it to do it on a Friday or extended period where work or other activities will not get in the way. Each person's chemistry is a little different and that coupled with the array of impurities/toxins an individual may have in their system will all play a factor. As with anything health related do your research - ( some links below for you to review ). I did some consulting work with Mayo Clinic and thoroughly trust their research as they have specialists for anything health related or any body part/function needed. Good reads, H2O. I did some research last night. Gonna try the Dr Tobias 14 day cleanse. It has high ratings on Amazon by more than 12,000 reviews. The bad reviews say they experienced cramping, bloating or the product didn't work as expected. I see this as a once a year process just to keep the innards clear.

Best of luck with it. I do it 1x per year with a slow introduction of fiber back in as a ramp up. Timing is key for me as I try to shoot for after the holidays to rid myself of all the trash I've taken in that I wouldn't normally eat 50 weeks out of the year.

Prune juice and a pickle should fix you up or if you really want to live on the wild side eat a bag of sugar free candy. Brachs specifically. You will feel shiny and new if you survive.

Each person responds a little differently which is why it is so individual and you have to find what works for you. My mom, grandmother and great-grandmother all swore by prune juice (and pickle juice for certain ailments) but they did nothing for me even as a kid except make me throw up and have cramps. The last resort was the warm red water bottle treatment. If you weren't going through the eye of a needle things weren't "right" in their opinion! Castor oil was the other 'go to'.

I would go with an overdose of Grilled Okra first. Glad that does it for ya! I love okra fixed any way possible but it doesn't keep me regular or clean the colon. Grilled corn on the cob on the other hand is like Roto Rooter.

I did the Advocare 10 day cleanse and could definitely feel a nice difference when done. Lost a couple pounds of sledge I believe!
Whether you think you can or you can't, you are probably right.

Had to do it before my colostomy was removed. Ain't no fun at all. Spend a couple of hours on the toilet. Used two kinds of laxatives, a powder and liquid. Can't remember the names but it meant drinking a gal of laxative in two hours

Cheapest colon cleanse is a 3-4 fast. Drink nothing but water (lots of it). No food at all. Important thing is to stay active throughout. Don't let yourself take an extra nap everyday otherwise your metabolism slows down and your body takes longer to recover.
At the end of the fast, you can do an advertised cleanse but I found out that the water does a pretty good job anyways.

Again it goes back the individual needs too. Personally I am hypoglycemic (low blood sugar) and I have to eat something every 2-3 hours or I crash. I shoot for 6-8 "meals" per day. That 1x/year I do a cleanse I discipline everything I eat for the 10 days to be all natural - mainly fruits, vegetable, and my protein sources are typically venison and fish.

Day 1 - not too bad. Took 1 capsule before bed last night. Drank lots of water yesterday preparing for the journey. Woke up this morning and had 3 BMs before 9:30. Will spare you the details except to say that none were violent.......yet.
Very mild cramping twice. Other than that, I feel pretty good. House smells like sh_t.

Why would you do this to yourself? Health Benefits of Cleansing Mayo Clinic article I have not and would not do the colonic described in the Mayo article. I have known some folks who have and had some negative side effects. Personally as stated earlier in the thread I do it 1x/year typically after the holidays and only with natural ingredients.

Should always take personal health into account before changing your diet. In some cases, I'd recommend talking to a doctor or dietician beforehand.

Not only does the Mayo Clinic article not push cleansing products, it specifically states that cleansing is unnecessary and goes on to list out many of the dangers of the process. And the Natural Wellness article clearly outlines a three step process using three specific products. In the description of the process steps, there are links to the shopping page where you can go to buy the three products. These are not simply banner ads. These are the specific products recommended in the article which supposedly offer the benefits listed in said article.

Yes I read the articles. I do not post in this section without thought or haphazardly. I work in healthcare directly. I have worked with Mayo clinic directly and trust their research. The articles were 2 references. As stated earlier in the thread and the original question asked was regarding any personal experience with cleansing. It is not for everyone but for those of us who have done it under care of a registered dietitian and/or physician it can have positive benefit. Mine is one perspective and I do a cleanse 1x/year without any artificial products being ingested.

Go get a colonic. That said......... I went to a health fair from my work and won a free one 10-11 years ago. I won it so I was going to use it, i never win anything! It was so demeaning and uncomfortable and I will never do it again but man did it clean me out. (never say never) I still have nightmares from this lady saying "You have to relax your sphincter for me to get it in" But alas I could not, and finally lets just say she was a big lady with strong thrusting muscles. Scared straight shows about prison did not deter my hooligan behavior 1/100th as much as a colonic, It actually changed my life for the better and made me a more upstanding citizen because I know I do not want to go to prison.
Stuff came out of me the likes of which I have never seen I swear I saw whole brown animal crackers, do they reassemble in the colon? (you can see through this glass tube all the "stuff" coming out fascinatingly GROSS!)
Anyway, I have come to the conclusion if you just have a high intake of fiber and probiotic intake it will keep you clean inside. But if you have been eating like [censored] and want it all out at once to start with an empty canvas (or colon) try a colonic. Weigh it out. Colonic- 15 minutes of shame and degradation or a week of gut cramps and rushing to the bathroom to blow out your O ring.
Last note. I weighed before and after and I was 3.3# lighter after. and the next day I FELT GREAT!

I have 1 day left. Things got back to somewhat normal after 6 days, but still feel that its doing a deep cleanse. I feel good and have kept a decent diet and exercise routine. The key to this process is drinking lots of water. We should drink a lot of water anyways.

The current thinking is the they are unnecessary. Currently, everyone is trying to put bacteria into their colon with the probiotics trend. Having said that, I dont think they are harmful. Youre gonna get one when you turn 50 anyway.

A trip to one of the old Poncho's mexican food joints always worked for me. Haven't seen one in a while so I just take 1200mg of magnesium and let er fly.
From Genesis: "And God promised men that good and obedient wives would be found in all corners of the earth."
Then He made the earth round...and He laughed and laughed and laughed!

My grandma always cooked up a pot of fresh collard greens seasoned with a tablespoon of black draught powder for the annual spring cleaning.

Just go buy some Family Dollar, or Kroger brand prune juice. Pour about 20 to 24 ounces in a large cup. Drink it warm, first thing in the morning before you've eaten. Do not eat until after you're finished being on the toilet. It'll take about 3 to 5 hours from start to finish i have intestinal issues associated with my back surgery and have been doing this every 6 to 8 weeks for many years. It works, but it ain't fun.
And don't leave the house until you feel empty.

Take magnesium and get just the right amount of "cleansing each morning. Start the day right! I do this every night. 2 capsules of ZMA (zinc, magnesium). Keeps your system on a healthy daily cleanse and you sleep better at night.

Im repeating a 14-day cleanse to rid my body of the Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years toxins. Started at 199lbs on Wednesday, January 3. Coupling it with a 5-day workout per week (M-F) and a better diet. Will update occasionally. Yes, this is a throne post

Unless your kidneys or liver are failing, or you've been exposed to stuff like pesticides and heavy metals, you're not full of toxins.

Unless your liver and kidneys are failing it's a major waste of time and money to do any sort of cleanse or detox.
You just get a "feel good" vibe because you think you are doing something good for yourself.
Basically it eliminates some water and is essentially a fast. There is nothing it "cleanses" your liver and kidneys take care of toxins and such.
However if you are dim enough to buy into the whole cleanse thing then I've got some ocean front property in Arizona you might be interested in.

Good luck with your sale. I know some quality realtors in AZ.
If your kidneys and liver are failing you won't need a detox. Hence the COLON cleanse focused on bowels.
Everyone's system is a bit different and it does work for some people. Even without spending extra money to do it.

The lining of the large intestine is continually shed and replaced. Unless you have diverticulitis, there aren't pockets of poop or "toxins" lingering.

I have diverticulitis, though I have only had one episode of painful symptoms that was handled with medication. High fiber diet helps keep that at bay.

Looking for experiences and input on this. Never done it before but giving it some thought. Waste of time and money. Just adds up to extra excrement. Does your liver function? Your kidneys? You don't need a cleanse, it just a scam to rid you of some money so you can "feel" like you did something when in fact you just literally took in the rear.

If you are "taking it in the rear" you had a colonic or have other problems and need a rape kit done. Colon cleanse can be done at low or no cost and can have positive impacts even though they are short term in nature.

If is not recommended by doctors why do it? The only time in the last 71 years a doctor ordered one for me was when they were going to check the intestines before removing the colostomy bag. It didnt take two weeks, it took two hours using a liquid and a powdered laxative. It as not a pleasant experience.

The positive impacts are....? From Natural Wellness article - 12.10.2013: The American diet is replete with chemicals, toxins and artificial ingredients that may well create a greater toxic load than the digestive, detoxifying and excretory systems can naturally handle. People are looking for an answer and many have chosen this treatment. In my experience, both personal and with many dozens of patients, periodic colon cleansing has had predictable and demonstrable beneficial effects for general health and well-being. The following are the most common benefits I have seen:
Weight loss This is probably the most common reason for people to use a cleanse. Users report losing up to 20 pounds in a month. Theories for this range from the removal of congested waste products and fecal matter to the release of fluids that build up in the tissues and colon to dilute accumulated toxins. Improved bowel function and regularity Restoring normal bowel motility relieves constipation and minimizes the potential for the absorption of un-eliminated toxins back into the bloodstream. By preventing constipation, associated conditions like hemorrhoids can be relieved. Increased energy After a detox program, my patients report a significant increase in energy and perceived well-being. This may be due in part to the improved sleep that is reported as well as the elimination of toxins. Better sleep In my experience, the days and weeks following a colon cleanse are marked by a better quality sleep. This may be due to less abdominal discomfort and gas, and/or reduced sleep interruption for nighttime bathroom visits. My patients often report this very same response. Clear skin Whether due to improved sleep, reduced toxins in the blood, adequate hydration resulting from intestinal balance or a combination of these changes and others, clear skin is a commonly reported benefit of colon cleansing.
The author was a physician and was pushing some products to aid in the process however there is no need to spend extra money to do it if you know your own system. Much depends on each individuals chemistry and their response to anything introduced into the system that may promote increased bowel function.
Grateful for every sunrise and sunset I get to witness. - Jason
