Just moved to San Antonio with my wife from South Dakota. Looking to find some crappie in the area. Not looking for your honey hole, just some general tips or lakes to hit. I do have a 16 ft boat as well.

Thanks for your help!

welcome To the TFF! cheers Guadalupe River from New Braunfels to Gonzales is loaded with nice Crappie. We have had several floods this year that have washed away a lot of brush piles. Really had to hunt for them this year. Got lucky on a lot of our trips and were able to find good numbers of quality fish. Right now finding fish in 12 to 16 feet of water hanging by brush piles, tree overhangs, and ledges. Jigs Chartreuse/pink or Chartreuse/black are working the best. The bite is only going to get better once fall patterns set in. You can also get good numbers on some of the Austin lakes and on Choke Canyon which is south of San Antonio. thumb

Thanks for the info! Any good spots on the Guadalupe River to launch a boat by myself?

I'm pretty busy with 3 little kids these days but my friend who lives in Cibilo may be able to show you around the river. He loves chasing those slabs as well. Do you have any electronics on your boat for finding fish? You'll just need to cover water and find submerged trees along the river channel.

I launch my boat (18 ft CC) by myself all the time under the I10 bridge in Seguin. I have also launched under the I10 bridge in New Braunfels but the concrete ramp is a little shorter and the ramp is subject to stronger currents. Both places have plenty of parking.

Good luck... I learned a lot about fishing the Guadalupe on this forum, particularly from the Banker-always fishing. You can bank on his recommendations (pun intended)
