Well Ive been fishing in the new kayak for a couple months now. I like to fish off shore structure and not having a FF has been driving me crazy. Yesterday I picked up a new Helix 7SI. Small enough not to get in the way, but large enough for these experienced eyes to see. The rigging starts today......

Do you have a battery for it yet? I know where you can deep cycle battery in a pelican box!

I'd get the blue brick from Walmart to run it. with one of these adapters so you don't have to splice into those tiny wires. or one of these for a cleaner install

I went with the nocqua 10ah battery. First time with a lithium so we will see. Im thinking it might take two batteries to last a full day though. Ill check the draw of the ff when I get a chance.

That's a nice battery. Been running different lithium batteries for 4 years now. They last longer (more cycles); but they definitely aren't deep cycles; when lithium batteries get below 70% of their rating, they turn off. The light weight is a huge advantage and why I keep using them.
My guess is the draw will be around 1.5 amps depending on brightness setting and how often you run autochart live.
Ballpark 7hrs of runtime would be my estimate.

Will you be using an arm for the transducer or mounting to the bottom of the hull? Im interested in getting an SI too but would like to know if side imaging works well with a transducer arm (my current setup).

I had a few SIs before and a arm always has worked great. Just make sure it sits low enough.

Be interesting to see how long your Nocqua 10AH battery lasts. Based on the Humminbird website your Helix 7 SI should draw 800 mA.

Depending on how low you're willing to draw the battery down I'm going to guess about 6-7 hrs.

I need to figure a way to stop at a point and hook up the back up. Any ideas?

three way switch - one side for one battery - the other for the other.
