I'm sure this has been brought up before but which month is better for El Salto? Looking at February or March. Which guide service is recommended?

No shortage of agents for each camp will be responding to this post soon. Most will not let you know that they are an agent or compensated so be Leary of recommendations. I would choose February over March, but both months are good. I think the absolute best time to fish El Salto is December or January. Less fishing pressure and the commercial nets become more numerous in March and April.

FYI I am an agent, but not pimping a camp/outfitter.

I've been to Salto 9 times and piscachos 2 times. I've stayed at Ron Speeds camps twice and the rest were Anglers Inn. Both outfits are good, but I prefer Anglers mostly because of their service and not having to pay separately for transportation and the extra cost of staying the last night in Mazatlan.

Anglers Inn has several hundred new St. Croix loaner rods available for guests' use. They are free of charge unless you break one.

Just got back from Angler's Inn .......
5 1/2 days of fantastic fishing & service at the AI facility....... 1st Class all the way
we caught: 10.5 / 5-7s including a 3-14 / 4-6s / too many 5s & 4s to count.
there were 2 more 10s & several 8s caught by 3 others that were there at the time.
the guys from Midland were fun and nice to be around .....
the German, Michael, was hoot and caught 2-10s & and 8 ...... fairly good stick.
the other guys there we did not get to know ,,,,, stuck to themselves ,,,,, oh well.
we only took our reels, they provided rods, but I think that program is part of the BASS Special unless you arrange rods in advance.
St Croix Avids & Mojos in various lengths & actions.
the FOOD was FANTASTIC --- steak, lobster, ribs, chicken
we even arranged for a take out lunch so we did not have to come back to the lodge for lunch --- just fished.
that was a mistake,,,the lunch was great on the boat,,,,but we wore ourselves out and started coming in early the last couple of days and missed the evening bite.
come in at lunch ,,,,, they serve a great lunch ,,,,,, take a siesta ,,,,,, go back out at 3pm for 4 hours of evening fishing when the fish really turn on.
get a direct flight to Mazatlan --- do not go thru Mexico City ---- transferring in Mexico City is a BIG HASSLE
even if it cost more to go direct to Mazatlan,,,,,, do not connect in Mexico City.
USA airport to Mazatlan airport ,,,,,,,, Phoenix/DFW/Houston ,,,,,, just do not go to Mexico City. I can't stress this enough. we almost missed our return flight to Houston due to connections in Mexico City.
Don't take alot of clothes ...... you don't need them. they do daily laundry for you. pack lite ,,,,,,, leaves more room for lizards (watermelon) and Senkos (watermelon -red / black n blue)......... take lots of Spike It Dip in Chartruese ...... be sure to pack it, Mexico customs will take it. Another reason to go in to Mazatlan direct. They understand the fishermen. Mexico City searched every bag I had on the way in. Took me an extra hour to get thru Mexican security. (And we complain here about security & immigration screening ..... right)
I am already planning a trip back with my boys & wife ........ she will love it.

If any of you would like more info about Anglers Inn, feel free to message me here or email Hanna Robbins at ladyangler@anglersinn.com -- she can get you booked. Tell her you found out about it from TFF.

I have been 15+ times to Anglers Inn and they will take care of you. The only problem now is getting there we used to have a direct from Houston to Mazatlan so the last couple of time we have went we have driven to Dallas and flown American airlines direct.

For those of you closer to Houston than to Dallas, starting in 2018 United will fly directly from IAH to MZT on certain days of the week, arriving around 1pm. Fares appear to be reasonable
