Hey All-
I'm planning my first trip to Texoma next Friday. I've been on the lake striper fishing a couple times with guides. Heading up there to catch some largemouth. Any advise on what is working well up there, or potential hazards I should watch out for. Also, what is the best place to launch from the Fort Worth area? Thanks in advance for any help. They've been shallow. Throw yellow magic for numbers, spook for bigger size. Swimbaits like keitech have been doing pretty well. Got on an insane vision 110 bite a few weeks ago in caney creek but have been catching them on it everywhere else as well although the bite has slowed down. If they aren't active pull out the ol shakey head. Eisenhower state park would probably be best from Fort Worth. Dam ramp had had multiple vehicles broken into. Eisienhower has two ramps, I use the shallower one because it's easier to load on it just make sure if you use that one to not hug the shore too much. If I go out again before you go I'll give you an update if anything changes. Oh, you're looking for shallow spots that have a steep drop off nearby.

I had a spare tire stolen off a Skeeter a few years back at the dam ramp on Texoma. 20 something years of boat ownership and that's the only place it's ever happened.

No problem! Going out on Sunday will give you an update then! Big front just hit so topwater may be completely nuts. Usually is on Texoma in fall.

Bite today was absolutely awful. Water is still low 80s to high 70s. If the weather cools off I'm sure activity will pick up. Caught 2 on watermelon candy finesse worm on shakey head, I ran the my best spots and even tournament spots I usually don't hit for the sake of them being discovered by poachers. You might graph some deep drop offs or something such as that. If water cools off the topwater bite will be back on for sure. If all else fails you can catch some dink spotted bass with drop shots inside the tire breakwaters. If you turn right out of Eisenhower and head to the dam the cove on the left (east burns run) has some brush in the back that you could try. Smallies may bite on Texas side main lake points as well. Shakey head is best for catching those.

I was planning on finding a few drop offs and hitting those after the morning bite slowed, but may be looking for those earlier than expected. Are there a lot of hazards on the lake, or can I pretty much just run it?

No hazards except some points run out further than you expect. Just stay off the shoreline and you're completely fine. No trees or anything.

biggest hazard is yacht wakes. keep an eye out for those and you'll be fine.

don't go when it's windy, that lake gets rough with anything over 10mph.

I can name you a bunch of ramps across texas that I've heard of or had stuff stolen from, one thing they all have in common they are free ramps with close easy access to a highway. It can happen anywhere I suppose but using a corp or state park ramp with a gatehouse that requires a fee is peace of mind.

yup, I've been broken into on the Oklahoma side. Broke my truck window and caused a lot of damage for $20 bucks in dirty laundry.

Wind can be tricky on Texoma. Around 7mph you'll get some uncomfortable chop. Most days it is whitecapping, usaully about 10-12 mph wind. Nothing to worry about. Plenty of pockets to pull into and get out of the wind. Don't let rough water discourage you. Biggest bass I've ever caught out of Texoma (7.76) was caught on a day where it was blowing 25 with about 2-3ft rollers. Also had a 34 smallie day dragging a shakey head on a point in 20 mph wind. Some of my best days have been in big wind. Just trim down a little bit and ride them out. Try to go straight into the waves or 45 them. If you can find the sweet spot on your hull you can run with them but it takes a while to perfect.

I am rarely discouraged by wind. There is just something about fishing a windy point that just gets me excited about being on the water. I have never been on a lake the size of Texoma, so caution will prevail when making decisions on where to fish.
