Anybody fish here, I'm wondering what the best approach is to the spillway area? Work the shorelines or go deep, crank baits, soft plastics, perhaps a humdinger.

I have caught a couple of bass from there but not much else. I have caught a lot more fish in the gravel pit across the street than at the dam itself. Don't let your guard down while fishing there and I definitely would be gone before dark.

Stand on the wall where the water flows down. Cast parallel to the spillway. Cast as far as you can, hugging the spillway. Work big curly tail grubs on 1/8th or even 1/4 oz jig heads. Work slowly back. Hybrids, sandies, and spotted bass. Sometimes big schools of sandies move in, sometimes crappie. Keep rod tip high, lots of underwater debris. That's what holds the fish and also the shad. Occasionally a big channel or blue will inhale your grub as well. White and almost any combination of chartreuse/something will work.

Some shady characters and behaviors go on over there. I'd pack if I were you, but then again I pack everywhere I fish. As stated, there's prob better options in the area than this place and there's usually 101 other people there fishing.

Anybody try the small ponds just west of there, between the bike trail and Riverside?

These are the ponds where they had the sewage spill early last year.

I have never fished them but I know there are fish in them. The river floods them a few times a year.

Thanks for the tips Rudy.
For those that don't know, when Lovfldx speaks it pays to listen.
