What the heck is that? It looks like a Cichlid had an affair with a catfish. Bowfin. Related to gar as I recall. We have them all over Lake Athens back in the coves. I have paddled right up to them and they seem unfazed. My angler neighbor has caught them, I never have but I suppose I could target them just to say I have. I may have hooked one or two back in the cove I live. Nice catch! Brad

Looks like a snakehead to me... What the heck is that? It looks like a Cichlid had an affair with a catfish. Bowfin. Related to gar as I recall. We have them all over Lake Athens back in the coves. Sorry but unless the picture is deceiving it's a bullseye snakehead, not a bowfin. Low-lying snout, pelvic fins right behind the pectoral fins, anal fin is long. Same kind of fish but different species. I'm sure it was still a beast on the end of the rod!
