Hello All, this is Michelle, Jeff's wife. I am looking for places to take my 9 year old catfishing at either Lavon or Bonham. For those who don't know, Jeff passed away last October at age 46. My son absolutely loves to fish, so I'm trying my best to keep that fire alive in him. I promised I would take him out today, but I have no idea where to take him. We do have a boat, so we will be out on the water. Any advice you can give will be appreciated! Thank you!

Oh, and if you see a blonde and a little boy and they look they they're struggling to get the boat in and out of the water, that's probably us! Don't make fun of my trailer backing abilities! laugh

Good luck!
I don't have any good current intel on those lake for you but I hope someone points you in the right direction.

If you don't get any pointers, you could always try putting in at twin groves on lavon and try fishing out around the timber there on the north end, just take it slow there are lots of stumps to hit a prop on.

I run guide trips on central Texas lakes, but I have fished lavon a hand full of times. My wife and Myself would be glad to come up, and take y'all out. Free of charge. Just to get the little guy on some fish. Pm me and I can give you my contact info, and we can try to find a day that works for both parties. I wish I could help out today. Threadfin Shad are spawning on lake whitney, if they are there also you may be able to find some nice size eaters shallow along the shore near a main lake point.

On lake Bonham there is a hump down by the dam right out in front of the overflow fence about 20-30 yards that hold cats pretty good this time of year. Punch bait off the bottom works good.

From Genesis: "And God promised men that good and obedient wives would be found in all corners of the earth."

Then He made the earth round...and He laughed and laughed and laughed!

Welcome Michelle, so sorry for y'alls loss. Don't worry too much about finding the perfect spot, just start drifting and sharing the experience with your son. You will have memories that will last a lifetime.

Hey y'all! I am just seeing these responses, as we took off to the lake that day and you know, life, and I haven't logged back on. I wanted to say thank you so much for all the kind responses and offers to help! My boy LOVES to fish, and that is an understatement. LOL! I'm just along for the ride and driving the vehicles, he's telling me what to do. smile
Thank you all so much for the offers to help. I will definitely take you up on some of them. He would love it!!

I have seen allot folks out in Mallard park (lake Lavon) catching catfish in the trees. they were using chad in 14-20 feet of water. no big fish but allot of eater's. I am sorry for your loss and if you need help with the lake pm me and I would be more than glad to take both of you out and show you some spots that are close to boat ramp's and can be very productive as well.
