You very well could be correct!! It could be that because I missed a few fish, I'm now paranoid about it, and letting them have it to long...Where as before I pretty much hammered them, as soon as they grabbed it, just like you would do when fishing a jig.
I'll figure it out, I was just curious if other people had experienced this problem or not, I just thought it was weird because I hadn't ever missed very many, before I switched to a flipping hook, and a snell knot!!!

Any other thoughts on the subject?

If you never hardly missed any with your previous hook why change? I bought some flipping hooks but I have always use a EWG hook and it rarely fails me. I just haven't been able to make myself switch from something that is working for me. My guess is that it's the weight or you are ripping the hook out.

I don't see any "give" in your set up
Stiff heavy rod with fast action on straight braid with a hammering hook set.
It's a recipe for ripping hooks free and blowing weights out of the fish's mouth

Brandon P. isnt the only one that doesn't like the snell

I'd go back to what you were doing. If it ain't broke

The knot makes all the difference in the world to me. I seem to connect on 3x as many fish tying a snell knot.

I do not wait on fish when flipping grass, the good ones will be on it before u feel them pull most of time. I use owner jungle hooks only when flipping grass. What bait are you using? Make sure it's a bait that is not to fat missle baits D-Bomb and a strike king rage bug or menece with a punch skirt are my go to baits

I like a straight shank if flipping grass or more vertical. If pitching a distance or short roll cast I like a ewg monster wire or wide gap plus.

Hay grass is a love hate thing for me. I can hook them up but loose alot bringing them in. I use Trokars flipping hooks and have had good luck landing fish lately. Are u using a smaller hook like a 3/0? Might try going bigger.

Worst hook setter in the world here with a jig, rarely lose em though, I just let em inhale and move off, little pull, boom! Fish on.

I literally use all owner hooks for everything, except for dropping. The Owner jungle hook doesn't have a welded eye which will eventually cost you a fish. Yes, you can dab some superglue on the gap to "weld" it, but for as much as they cost they should just manufacture them that way. If you tie a snell on an Owner Jungle hook (which is the knot you should tie) one of two things will eventually happen... either the gap will weaken the braid, or the braid will slip through the gap where the weld would normally be causing the pressure of the weight when it contacts the fishes jaw on a hook-set to push the hook away from the fishes mouth instead of towards it.

I use the Gamakatsu and it works just fine. Trokars are okay, but they can tear a big hole in the fishes mouth at times.

The old reaction innovations hooks were good, as were the old Bub Tosh hooks (These are the ones you had to use your own shrink tubing on). The Strike King Hack Attack hooks are okay, but not as sharp as the Gammies and the hard plastic keeper doesn't do as good a job keeping a bait.

There you go, everything you ever wanted to know about dropping hooks, lol.

When you check your bait, is the hook out of the plastic? If not, you're not hitting it hard enough to bust the weight out of the fishes mouth. I've lost some toads the last couple of years that the hook never even got exposed. I hit em as hard as I can now and don't lose as many big ones.

Like Doug r said, owner jungle and a snell is good stuff. However I may go back to trokar just for the welded eye. I noticed last weekend my braid had worked through the gap, good chance of breaking on a hook set.

Sorry bullet20 already spoke of the welded eye problem. I've got a few packs of the reaction BMF hooks, I wish I had more

i always run the run the hook through the bait a few times and then spray that bang stuff where the hook enters the bait it help the bait slide off much smoother but make sure the rod u r using is a stiff one

I agree Mark Perry....Owner Jungle Flipping is probably the best hook for braid and Fluorocarbon
