I go over the dam almost every day I've never seen a cop out there only GW's. There is no hill and the speed limit is 45. The road that goes down to the spillway behind the dam is 30 mph. If you made a check out to the judge you're not very smart. The Delta county LEO would never make you write out a check. They will give you a ticket with a date to see the judge. The only place I've ever seen them running radar is on Hwy 24 to catch the fools running 80 in the 65 mph construction zone. By the way Delta County is the only cops here. We have no city cops. Maybe you're thinking about some other lake. Please don't put down my little town.

I thought about hitting Cooper lake, while I was down last week. I haven't fished Cooper lake in 3 years. I used to catch a lot of mag size sandbags and big hybirds. Does TWPD still stock that lake with hybrids?

Cooper just rose 5 feet with all this rain. I would venture to guess fishing would be tough for quite a while....

COE says it's 3 feet over and expected to go to 5 feet over. It was 3' low. TPWD stocked 600K last year and over a million this year. The ones from last year are 14-16 in. long now. In a couple of years the hybrid fishing should be great.

Any reports on catching?

Would like to make a trip out but suspect water is rusty and fish are slow?

Actually, Coop has come up almost 7 feet in the past week and the forecast is for even more flooding run-off. It was 4.1 feet into flood stage 48 hours ago and was almost 3 feet below pool when all the torrential rain started on the watershed in the past week...
Here's the official website with current elevation data:
https://waterdatafortexas.org/reservoirs/individual/jim-chapman

Based on my past experience at Coop I would guess most areas are extremely muddy to stained and water quality will become even worse when they start releasing and pulling large volumes of water downstream into Wright Patman.
More flooding rainfall is predicted for Lake Cooper and surrounding area for several more days...here is the latest advisory as of 7:15 A.M. this morning August 17th.
* Flood Advisory for...
Hunt County in north central Texas...

* Until 1015 AM CDT.

* At 715 AM CDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms that were
producing heavy rainfall across portions of Kaufman County across
locations that received one to two inches of rainfall from earlier
activity. Excessive runoff from these thunderstorms will cause
urban and small stream flooding. Areas that are low lying or
usually experience poor drainage are most likely to experience
flooding. This means some low water crossings in the region may
become impassable.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Greenville, Commerce, West Tawakoni, Wolfe City, Quinlan, Caddo
Mills, Celeste, Campbell, Hawk Cove, Josephine, Lone Oak and
Neylandville.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

The lake is already dropping. It is stained but not to bad for Cooper. I fished for two hours yesterday and caught a sandbass or hybrid pretty much every cast. The fish are not schooling on top so you have to be able to use electronics to stay on them. It could get bad real quick with the gates opened up like they are now but who knows anyone can sit at home and guess want know till you go. I see lots of negative posts about how the lake is fishing and I have been averaging over 150 fish per trip for the last two months.

I have been working out of state but I am home for the holiday weekend. I'd like to catch some sand bass, hybrids and/or stripers tomorrow or Sunday. Is anyone still catching sandies on Cooper? If so, do you suggest early, mid-day or evenings?

Like clk said, they're on the bottom. Target the humps and watch your electronics. Had a blast out there this morning!

I keep telling my buddies we need to go to Cooper. Sounds like it is still on there.

Are they still biting on Cooper? It doesn't look like many people are posting updates, if they are even fishing the lake.
