Question- the insert of my front guide on my pitching rod popped out the other day. I have researched that you can't easily replace the insert and you really need to remove the front guide and replace it.
If I fish without an insert will the metal damage 20lb FC line? Any ideas how tough it is to remove and replace the front guide? This is on a Megabass Orochi XX Perfect Pitch rod so I'd want to replace it right and not buy a $2 tip and throw on it.

I've had a couple tip inserts come out and they were fine. I eventually get a new tip for them but haven't had any problems with line frays

If you're pitching/flipping cover, I'd just go to 65# braid and take the issue out of the equation until you can get it replaced. Best case is to just go pick up a tip and replace it. Cheap and takes about ten minutes tops.

If it's the very tip, replace the tip. If insert on guides popped out and still on line between guides, slide back in guide and use super glue to reattach, then cut that section of line off and retie. Done it many times.

It is the very tip. It has a high-end Fuji microguide tip. I was going to order one but I need to determine the exact size of the tube (blank) to order the correct tip.
How do I get the old tip off? Heat it or something?

use a butane lighter with a small flame only applied to the tip, not the rod blank, as you're doing this keep turning pressure on the guide with a pair of needle nose pliers and it will pull right off.

This is correct. I would not use the rod without the insert in it especially since it is so easy to replace the tip.

Thanks guys. I am going to order a new tip. It is a Fuji micro tip with an Alconite insert. I need to figure out what tube size and than the insert size before I can order.
I have another rod with a broken second guide0 micro type. I don't notice much difference with it not being there but I may attempt to fix it also (getting brave I guess).

Stop in at Barlows, they sell the parts and usually have them in the store! The 2nd guide will likely need some wrapping, they sell small kits for that type of repair as well.
As to the original question, if the insert came or clean (no broken bits or frayed edges) it would be fine. Otherwise it will shred your line and you'll undoubtedly break off on a hookset during the big tournament!

I would not use it without an insert. Get your new tip, measure it next to the one being removed. Use a razor blade and cut through the wrap where the new tip ends. Heat up the old tip with a butane torch or lighter. Remove old tip. Place hot glue on the rod blank. Put the new tip on the rod and align to ensure it is straight. Wait 5 min and go fishing.

Definitely will damage line. Like someone said, cut through the windings and then carefully alternately heat and pull the tip till it slides off. If you overheat it will destroy about the the first 3/4 inch of the rod and this will change the action. Then purchase a new tip or check your supply of old junk rods and get a good tip from one of those.
