I am currently running Gen 1s with the LSS1 on my center console Mako. Both transducers are at the back of the boat (transom). I just purchased a Gen 3 to upgrade, that came with the total scan transducer. I have heard that I can use the current transducers and some say the image is better, then with the total scan transducer. If this is the case, I see no reason to use the total scan transducer. If anyone has some input on this I would appreciate it. So, if I do decide to keep the LSS 1, do I connect the Gen 3 to the LSS 1 module, or directly to the LSS 1 transducer? Thanks for any input, I really appreciate it.

Here's the truth. The lss1 has better downscan when using 800, the lss2 (and totalscan) has better side imaging while running 455. If your boat is slow and the transducer stays in the water while on plane, then the totalscan is good for you. It's not great on fast bassboats since it will lose contact with the water.
But if you want to keep life simple, just plug in your current transducers and go fishing.
I run 1 lss1 straight into my gen2 graph (on the trolling motor) and I have 1 running through a lss1 module (transom mount), I don't see a whole lot of difference in quality.

You can use the lss HD box, some say it gives a better image. I tend to agree with the LSS-2's. I'm a helix guy my self but when I have been helping customers tune there graphs I see the total scan is alot more user friendly. The LSS won't let you change sensitivity so what you see is what you get. In order to clear the image your need to adjust the SI ranges to get the best view.
