Wondering if anyone else has the issues I have with the Minn Kota Terrova.
1. The power cord constantly tangles up with the head adjustment.
2. The remote control constantly has trouble staying on. I always have to give it the "Minn Kota Slap" with my hand to get it to come back to life.
I like the motor and most of the time it works well. Just wondering if these issues are unique to my motor or just design flaws like choosing a battery for the remote that is very hard to find.

I have the power drive. The power cord will wrap maybe 1.5 or 2 x before the unit will turn itself back to unwrap the cord. The remote has almost always needed a slap to wake it up. There are actually 2 or 3 batteries that will fit the remote. See if one a size larger will tighten it up to eliminate the need to slap it to wake it up. Take the remote with you to a batteries plus store. Weatherford and lake worth have a store.

Not much can be done about the cord because of the 360 degree turning radius of the head. It will only go so far before it automatically unwinds the cord.
Do you have the link remote or the ipilot? The smaller ipilot remote uses a round battery and if the battery is loose in the compartment it doesn't get a good connection. Try a different brand of battery or for something in there too keep it tight. The link remote uses a rechargable battery with a cord connection so doesn't have that problem

I had the same issue with my remote. You can pull you battery out a take a small pick and gently bend the 3 metal tabs out a little. 2 on the sides and the 1 on the bottom of remote. Makes the battery tighter in the compartment. Haven't had a problem since. My Terrova is one of the first ones out so my only complaint is it drifts and wonders a lot more than when I first got it. Time for a Ultrex

Thanks Joe. I will try to do that. I may also try to add a conductive shim to tighten the thing up. I like the motor. Having an 80 LB trolling motor on my aluminum boat is nice. It's just disappointing that it has all these design flaws.

Pkfishing, all new products have a period of consumer testing beyond the manufacturers r and d. Even with my thumpers I thought I had everything worked out so folks wouldn't have any problems. I found out differently. There is usually something that can be improved on almost all products. I have added several components and now use other better components than the original thumpers I produced for people. Since adding these I feel more confident about adding a warranty for 12 months. When I buy a new backhoe I wait at least a year after the new models come out so others can be the guinea pig in testing them. Consumer input after the sale is invaluable to manufacturers also.

Don't be afraid to cal MK technical support and talk to them. Not sure what your warranty situation is but they may have a better tip for you or may very well send a replacement. They have been very good to me in the past.

Joe: I lifted up the metal tab some and it really helps. Thanks for the tip.

My Terrova will usually only wrap 1.2 - 2 times before correcting itself. However, I have had a couple rouge instances where it continued to wrap, and I had to manually unwind it. I love the motor, but I don't completely trust it to think for itself....have to keep an eye on her!
