Just recently I noticed that occasionally my rpm gauge will jump around all over the place, it seems like it mostly happens whenever I'm in forward gear just trolling around but has happened in WOT of going a little faster than just been in forward gear.

Try rotating the small recessed cylinder number rheostat screw on back of gauge several times. Make sure and return rheostat screw to the correct number cylinders for your motor. Cylinder numbers should be shown on back of tach.

Is there anyway you could show me a picture of this screw on the backside of a tachometer? Also do I rotate it clockwise?

Is the rheostat screw also referred to as a range selector?

Thanks Gamblinman, I will try rotating this and see if that changes anything.
