Sorry to hear this. Although we don't know the details and we certainly can't predict the future, many folks live many years with metastatic prostate cancer these days. If it's in his bones, they will want to give him monthly infusions of Zometa or Xgeva or a similar "bone strengthening medications". Make sure he has a dental exam before starting these medications because any tooth extractions needed in the future can be dangerous.

toofy is right on here.Take heart. All is not neccessarily lost. I was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic male breast cancer that had spread into my chest wall, surrounding lymph nodes, upper and lower spine, hip and pelvis, upper femur, shoulder, skull and lungs 3 years ago this week. I underwent 10 radiation treatments to stabilize my spine and did chemo for 3 months. The petscan following the chemo showed no detectable cancer. Now since then the cancer has appeared again (It always does with stage 4 breast cancer) several times in small spots and we've had to repeat chemo or change which chemo I'm on. I went one entire year off it completely. I'm lucky in that I am very tolerant of the chemo drugs they have given me, including the one I currently take once a month lovingly known as "The Red Devil" or "The Red Death." The cancer in my case messed up two of my vertebrae pretty bad, limiting how long I can stand up and walk quite a bit, but other than that if I didn't know I had cancer I wouldn't know I did. I feel great most of the time. And yes! One thing that has made a big difference for me has been the outpouring of thoughts and prayers from friends and family , including the TFF family and many other folks. Many of these folks I've never met. I have no doubt this makes a difference so I extend a prayer to your Father too.

Toofy is right about the dental thing too. I'm one of the lucky ones who went to the dentist first and still came down with a serious complication called osteonecrosis of the jaw. I think I have gotten rid of it now, but it's a bummer. Less than 1% of Bisphosphonate drug (zometa, etc) users get it. I'm just an odds beater.

Praying for you dad and your family. I'm married to a breast cancer survivor! Prayers, faith and a positive
attitude brought us through it. God bless your family. Travis
