My boat (Javelin 389T)...has two steps below transom.

Where would you guys recommend installing a side imaging transducer...the unit I have is a Garmin 73sv

Do you have a jackplate? I try to avoid drilling any holes in fiberglass below the waterline.

No...I don't. Would consider getting one I guess. Then do you just drill into the aluminum?

Also, what does a cheaper manual jackplate cost, installed?

I have a 150hp Johnson Faststrike motor.

You can get something like this and attach it to the tramsom with drilling holes.

Id install it on that middle step if your motor wont interfere with the imaging and if i had to go with the bottom step id move it pretty high up. Thats my personal opinion especially if you have another graph that can read while youre on plane

THis one will be the one while using while on plane. I wont use much sonar on plane though...I will use the unit and its maps.

Thought about getting a manual jackplate that will set the motor a bit away to give me some more options, but I really dont want to get one just for that. I guess I would receive the other added benefits from having a jackplate. My unit (Garmin 73sv) is coming in, in the next 2-3 days and I will prob just have to see what kind of clearance I have. I hesitant to install on last step, then its basically a part of the bottom of the boat...dont know about that.

anyways, thanks for the comments and I will welcome any and all!

I'd glue the sternsaver in that middle step and screw it on to that. How does your boat handle stumps? Do you get stuck on them and have to drive off? Mine just slides off sideways, generally won't sit on top of one and get stuck. My transducer is pretty safe on my transom. You might even want to move it further to the side. I start losing the bottom above 7-8 mph so I just use my gps and map card to navigate.

You should be alright then , i use 2 graphs. My side imaging is only good for trolling and anything below 5 mph so i use it until its time to go then my helix9 becomes just a gps and my lowrance becomes my depth finder. Bobby milam is right about the glue on stern saver its a very good investment
