Got it at the rehab center. They treated it with Albuteral breathing exercise, a cough suppressant, cough syrup, antibiotic, and Musenex. Nothing worked. Still wheezing and hacking with an occsisional bit of flim coming up. Google says asthma cough and wheezing can last up to 8 weeks or longer. I am using the nebulizer with Albuteral and that seems to work some but does last very long

Are there any home remedies I can try?

Hopefully Kat will see this and recommend something.
If anyone knows a home remedy it would be her.

That Albuterol makes me jumpy as heck, have sleep issues already and that makes it worse.

Vicks Vapor Rub. Rub on your chest, and back. Also, an over the counter decongestant

sounds to me like bronchitis. get some decongestant and use it till the wheezing goes away.

I have to use symbicort and albuteral for copd.

I go thru the same thing about 2-3 times a month.

Exactly. You are born with it. Certain things may trigger an attack but you don't catch it. Last few weeks I have used my inhaler a bunch.

You can't just "catch" asthma. Sounds like you have bronchitis or maybe COPD. If you're running fever could be pneumonia. And with the weather changes it could just be you're allergic to something. If your chest feels tight and wheezy, ask your doc for some steroids. It will help with the inflammation. Albuterol Nebulizer about the only thing that will open your lungs. Gotta be your own advocate. If somethings not working let them know. Also ask if you can do your nebulizer treatments closer together. That way you won't have to wait so long in between treatments. Stay indoors. Stay cool. Hope you feel better soon. smile

Sorry grandpa, you can't catch asthma. That's a thinning of the bronchial tubes in your lungs and is something you're born with. You could be diagnosed with COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) (chronic bronchitis, emphysema, that kind of thing) or you could have developed some kind of pneumonia in there.

Steam, hot drinks, caffeine expands your airways making it easier to breathe, vicks on your chest (NOT YOUR FEET).

Herbal stuff worked when we didn't have any better medicine. Now, we do. Talk to your doctor.. you've got a bunch of things that you're already taking medicines for that you don't want to counteract. Mucinex typically doesn't mess with high blood pressure medications but again, TALK TO YOUR DOCTOR.
