How do you get a new title for a single axle boat Trailer? Seller has boat and motor title, but notnfor the trailer.

Thanks for any help.

You don't need a title. The trailer doesn't have one. Have him make you a bill of sale listing his name, the date of sale and the serial number for the trailer. Take that to the county tax accessors office where you renew plates for your car and they will take care of it.

If he has a copy of his last registration renewal that can help also.

You can simple bill of sales online.

Thanks KD, what about if it's out of state? Buying in Oklahoma and changing plates to Texas? Same deal?

Should be the same. I Did a quick search.

Google search says only trailers used commercially are titled in OK. The bill of sale will be all you need here.

Trailer Registration in Oklahoma. Only trailers that are used commercially must be registered and titled in Oklahoma. You will need to visit your local OK Tax Commission office with a completed Application for Oklahoma Certificate of Title for a Vehicle (Form 701-6).

Kd. Nailed it. If you have the previous registration papers it helps alot. when I did mine the application wanted to know how much the trailer was bought for. Yet my b.o.s. wasn't itemized. Luckily the lady was cool with the price I put down.

I just did this for a trailer from California. On the registration there was no weight so I had to get a copy of the title from their DMV office. Once I got that, I was able to get the trailer registered. As of Sept. 1st, you no longer need to get the trailer inspected if it is under so many lbs (I think it is 7500 lbs but I'm not certain as mine was way under for a Bass Tracker). Good luck

This is good information. I purchased a used mini-pontoon boat in Canton a couple weeks ago. It was essentially a consignment sale from an estate as the owner passed away. As of now I've not received original titles so I've not registered the boat. I do have a bill of sale so per the information in this post I see I can get license plates for the trailer. But if I don't receive the old titles in a timely manner, is there any way for a new owner (me) to title a used boat without old titles? And, the boat has a 15 HP Mercury OB which may have never been titled in the first place.
