headed down to port mansfield to do some salt water fishing soon.

If I use an STX in salt water, will it get messed up?

I assume i would need to clean it afterward, how much should it be torn down after such use? Or should i just leave it at home?

I have used mine in Florida in the surf and didn't have any problems. The In-Shore Revo would be a better choice if always fishing salt water but for occasional salt all the Revo's are fine. Any good quality baitcasting reel for that matter is fine. They are made of stainless and non-corrosive components. I would avoid any of the reels with magnesium componants though as it will react with salt water. The condos we stay in always have a fresh water shower for rinsing off when coming off the beach and I simply give my reels a quick fresh water shower when done. Never had any problems.
