My buddy has a Sprint that I have fished out of several times. Fished well and we never had any issues. Everywhere from small lakes up to Amistad. Was good to us

I owned one for about 5 years and fished pretty hard with it; never had an issue...good rig for the money.

I bought a brand new Sprint 207 back in 94. I fished it 3 years pretty hard with no boat related issues. Blew a power head on the Evinrude in the first 12 months but It was replaced under warranty. My only issue with the boat was over by the passenger side. It was an open area where the side came up to the console. Any bags of plastics, cans, etc. in the floor would cyclone over there and eventually end up in the opening and then down in the bilge area. I kept a large towel stuffed in there to keep it from happening.

Overall I enjoyed the boat and had no issues with it

I owned a 1997 Sprint 286 Pro Tournament for about 5 years.

I was never unhappy with the boat besides with things the last owner had done. I also never talked to another Sprint owner who had complaints. This boat was 18'3 with a 150hp motor so a little different than the one you are looking at.

The only thing I have on my Sprint was that the transom was questionable, I kinda thought the transom might have been rotten, so thats definitely something I would look at.

guys I appreciate all of these replies! I'm having a hard time spending thousands more on a skeeter that's older, smaller, and without as much power. I believe that the rig I'm looking at is a 221dc and I am hoping it has a composite transom. evidently it came from the factory with a gorilla hull, or so I am told.

I thought that was a cell phone? No way would I ever buy that boat brand unless you plan to never sell it.

Because you will never get your investment out of it if you happen to sell. If you plan to keep it forever and you like the boat, then it's all great. Folks 'roun here just don't buy Sprint bass boats, majority anyways. This is only my opinion. It doesn't have to be yours. A good resale return would be a very hard feat!

I appreciate that information. I am still not sold on getting that big of a boat but it seemed to be good bang for the buck

depends on the price. if you get a good deal on it there's always a healthy old-boat market and may be able to sale it a few years later for close to what ya got in it.

but yeah all things being equal, a sprint isn't going to bring as much as a ranger and it will take longer to move it.

There's a lot of variables to evaluate what constitutes a good deal.
First & foremost, decide whether the boat is in good shape. Not cosmetically but mechanically. If and only if the answer is yes, then worry about the value.

some questions to consider:
* The motor is going to be about 80% of the value, so make sure its in good shape. Get a compression and leakdown test.
* How many hrs?
* What do you know about its maintenance history?
* Original lower?
* Original powerhead?
* Stator, PowerPack, how old are they?
* How many owners?
* Has the boat lived inside its whole life? Good carpet / seats?
* Trailer - any rust problems?
* Transom - check that out thoroughly
* Deck - any soft spots?
* wiring/Electrical does it look like a 70s porn-star underneath or is it neat and buttoned up?
* How old is the TM? - meaning will you need to buy a new one anytime soon?
* What electronics are included?

if it seems to be good mechanically i would try to stay well under 10k to consider it a good deal on a boat that old. 7.5? Do a KBB lookup, that will give you an idea.
If it doesn't check out mechanically, stay away unless you want to have a project boat and plan on restoring. In which case you'd want to get it for under 5.
