I had the day to myself so spent it on the lake from 8:50AM to 4:35PM. It was a good fishing day with 98 caught: 80 whites, 9 cats, 3 legal hybrids, a short hybrid and 5 keeper size yellow bass. It was a scouting trip where I would find fish on the electronics and then verify they would bite by catching 5 to 10 at most spots. I started at a spot south of Crappie Island. I had been catching fish there the last few days and I wanted to see if it still held fish. It did and I caught 5 whites and a hybrid there. I will put this new spot on my map - two humps close together I'll name Drew's Humps. Next place I found fish was the small hump immediately SW of Sam's Hump. Caught 5 whites there and moved on. From there I went north to the Rock Pile, where I caught another 5 whites then moved on to Enchanted Isle Ridge. It had a lot of big whites on it , so I stayed longer catching whites til I got to a cumulative count of 50. Also caught 2 hybrids there. Next I went to Game Warden Hump and caught 10 more whites, then to Dollhouse Point and caught 10 more big whites. Last spot was Long Ridge. It was loaded and I caught another 10 whites and headed in. Fish were in 16 to 22 fow. I used a #4 Mepps. They wanted it jump-started and reeled fast 3 to 5 turns. That's good news in that it appears we no longer have to downsize to a #2 because of the small shad. On Monday I took my 3 yr old grandson and his parents out for a short trip. Here is a pic: Thursday 9/7/2017: Was out at 7:30AM and really enjoyed the great, cool weather. I caught fish at Drew's Humps, the Rock Pile, Enchanted Isle Ridge and Iron Wall Hump. Ended up with 63: 50 whites, 3 legal hybrids, 2 short hybrids, 6 cats and 2 keeper yellow bass. All caught on #4 Mepps and in 18 to 22 fow.

Great report. Thanks. I wonder if the front coming through will slow the bite down.

Wow, Gene, I hadn't thought to calculate that. He was born in Oct 2015. Twenty-two years from that is Oct 2037. So he'll graduate in May 2038 if he's on time. My Aggie son hadn't even brought that up. Thanks, Dennis

Dennis, I fished this past Saturday, Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday morning. The first 3 days I found good schools of fish at Spillway Hump and Key Ranch. A few keeper Hybrid mixed in. #4 Mepps and 1/8th oz split shot. If you fished it any faster than just enough to get the blade spinning, you fished too fast. Tuesday morning I only got to fish 3 hours, but it was probably my best morning of the entire year. I located a massive school that stayed put. It was the small hump far North of Enchanted Isle before you get to the Islands. The last hour I fished, a large school of Hybrid moved in. At least 15 20" plus keepers. Action was non stop. And the fish were all in 10-12 fow. Hated to leave but it was time to head home. Again, #4 Mepps was the ticket.

CenTexan: Nice boat. I saw it several times at a distance. Now I know it is you. I've been cranking the #4 fast 4 times after a jerk start and catching them. I'll try slowing it as you describe and see if it works for me. That's what I have to do in the winter months. One drawback for the slow speed is that I catch more catfish. Thanks for sharing your info!

Hey Dennis, I used your technique up here in the middle of Oklahoma today. #4 Mepps and I was pulling them almost every cast.
Located them by trolling yum flashmob juniors then went back and marked them and set up. I actually set up on a hump and was throwing into the deeper water. They were hitting it as it came up the side of the hump.
Lots of fun and I just wanted to thank you for sharing your technique.

Dennis would you mind showing us what sandbass look like on side scan? Just curious if what I think is sandbass is them. I was driving down a long point today and over to my right 80 feet looked like a small school of white dots spread flat across the bottom.. Could it have been sandbass just laying on the bottom? I could get them to bite a slab or a piece of shad.
