One of my YouTube subscribers mentioned using a sabiki-type rig tipped with maggots on my handlines. I went out yesterday to try it:

I also got a new powerhead for my boat after my hot-rod motor blew. Going back to bone stock motors.

Love that motor Willie. Looks like you caught a nice variety of fish. Good job Sir.

Yeah, that motor is a great one. I want to build a new boat, something much longer, a little narrower and slightly deeper.

.

I use maggots almost exclusively for bluegill. And they will bite them
no matter what I attach them too.

wink

The main thing is that flies with maggots helps me save bait. I don't have an infinite amount of maggots. Instead of using four maggots per hook, I can tie a fly on the hook and only use one or two maggots. I've tested it over and over. I catch the same number of fish or greater, but use less bait when combined with flies and artificials.

It's okay to combine methods of fishing. It's your boat, your gas, your motor, your freezer.

I've tried all kinds of combos. one maggot on a plain hook, two maggots, up to four maggots. On a plain hook three to four maggots work best. Again I find that four hooks with three to four maggots each becomes a lot of bait. I find that multiple hooks works better than a single hook. That much bait, and you can run out of bait fast. tied a buggy looking fly and cut back to one or two maggots per hook and you can catch the same number of fish, but save a lot of bait.

It isn't always about artificial vs live bait. It's about using the best combo for your needs. That involved destroying certain erroneous sensibilities that suggest live bait and artificials cannot be used to complement one another.

I've found that the human brain is always trying to convince itself that it has the complete picture, and anything that falls outside of what it considers the whole picture is instantly rejected. As a result many possibilities are never seized upon because of fixated thinking.

Fitz, then Champ is working out fairly well. Been doing a lot of jug fishing lately. The motor constantly runs as I'm running and checking jugs. Eventually I'll need to bump up to a 390cc motors.

That little 196cc seemed to run hot yesterday and wouldn't crank for about 30 minutes.

What I really want is a Yanmar 10 hp diesel motor for this thing. Bolt a tractor motor to this thing and it will do all kinds of work.

Doc, thx.
