Hellbenders, they are appropriately named.

The technique you described is called Back-Trolling. BASS has now outlawed it!

Always heard it called Strolling.

I have always called it long lining, but that's the only terminology I have ever heard used.

Kinda surprises me that they outlawed it. As much of a waste of time as that could be, I'd say have at it! After you're done reeling in one cast, you have to get back to the original spot for another cast, and repeat.

I'm not sure how it could be an advantage for one person over another, too. But I guess they considered it "non-sporting", like the umbrella rigs getting outlawed.

I know I don't carry the deepest running cranker out there. The deepest I have are DD22s. However, I tend to throw 3XDs and 5XDs mostly.

The only reason things get outlawed like the A-Rig and Long lining is someone that can't catch fish on it and has had their butts kicked by them.. I've heard a lot of people say I've thrown that A-Rig till my are fell off and never caught a fish.. The A-Rig is not magic.. There is a time and place..
