Can someone point me in the right direction on how you start a team and how it all works to get a HS bass program started.

you'd start it like you would a normal club on the school end of it. Then you have everyone pay the yearly dues and register with the THSBA. From there you just start fishing.

Ours is an "after school" club so it's a little bit different I think than some clubs. Probably advantages and disadvantages to both. I found a teacher to do the grade checks and help with our meetings but otherwise the school doesn't do much of anything to promote the club. They were very supportive but also strict on going by the guidelines of an after school club and I understand that and am happy with our success so far.

My biggest issue is no one reads anything I put out. It's unbeleivable and I'm not exaggerating, I get asked the same questions over and over daily because they don't take the time to read what I post. I have a website, Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, GroupMe and they don't utilize any of it. I have every form, our schedule, everything, on our website but they refuse to use the resources and had rather just text me and ask me to send it to them 5 times. Out of 20 members I think 16 had the paperwork filled out correctly.

Set the rules and go by them! I set a deadline for paperwork and 16 out of 20 turned it in at the last minute of the last day. I guess its just todays world but I'm just the opposite. I want my stuff turned in early, correct, and be done with it.

For us at least, there's a lot more to it than just getting their dues and start fishing. We set it up as a 501C-3, bank account, sponsors, etc. You have to have By-Laws, officers, meetings before you can set up a bank account and it's pretty much a requirement to get sponsors. They want the tax write off and for the club to be legit. Setting up the bank account was way more complicated than my wife and I imagined. We did pretty good this summer on sponsors and got some cash in the bank for our club.

It is a lot of work on the front end but it is a blast after all that paperwork and such is turned in. Having a great set of parents to form a booster club helps. My booster earned almost $10k this summer to spend on jerseys. They are willing to help any where I need.
C130 is correct about the students turning in papers/money the last minute. Procrastination is at an all time high with this group.

That's awesome that they raised that much money. Is your club an after school club? Last year I couldn't get anyone to raise a dollar. This summer we had several new members join and they raised over $3,000.

Like you said though, it gets much easier from here on out once they get the initial paperwork turned in. It's worth it though and I really enjoy watching the excitement of the students.

I just had a student give me a 3 hour window to show up with his forms and payment. I just laughed and told him the time I'd be home and if he wasn't there during that time he could put in in my mailbox and if it wasn't correct he'd need to come back to correct it. They are good kids though, some just need some guidance.

It is an after school club. My anglers are lucky because I am a teacher/coach, so they can find me throughout the day.

Ive had a small amount of time to research it...but it looks like to me that we have to start a club. Each individual has to pay $25 yearly fee to be a high school bass fishing member (forgot the actual name).

Then where do we go to find the hs tournaments...I live in Texas and on the high school bass fishing website, I only saw like 2 tournaments in Texas and one was the state championship.
