Army Corp of Engineers has two public docks. Cranes Mill and Potters Creek. You can also try Turkey Cove.

OVERLOOK PARK

Hours: 7am -Sunset Daily
Season: Open All Year
Overlook Park is on a hilltop at the south end of Canyon Dam and is the location of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers headquarters at Canyon Lake. The park offers a scenic view to Canyon Lake and Dam. There is access to the Verada Real walking trail across Canyon Dam. A restroom at the top of the hill and visitor parking is available. There are no camping or picnic facilities but you are welcome to hike and picnic.
The office for visitor information is open Monday through Friday 8am to 4:30pm, excluding Federal Holidays.
The use of this park is free of charge.

Cranes Mill Park has Crappie Dock where crappie can be caught. It's over a submerged brush pile. Also there is shore line fishing.

Canyon Lake Bait shop with minnows, goldfish, and other bait near park entrance on Far North (South) side of lake past Startzville.

Well, guys that's some decent advice. I lived on Canyon Lake for about 10 years in the late 80's to early 90's. Some of the best bass & catfishing I ever had was at Cranes Mill Park. I would go out at night with a headlamp, small dip net and a bucket. Slowly flip rocks over and find a whole mess of crawfish. Next you fish on the side of the park that faced the mouth of the river. Throw your live bait anywhere from 10ft to no more than 30ft from the bank. Place your rods in good rod holders and wait. I have caught some huge flatheads and some really good blues and channels this way. I have also caught some really nice largemouth this way up to 5 lbs.

The crappie docks at Cranes Mill is a place of legends. Back in the day we would sleep on that dock and wake up to your rod tip hitting the water from the top railing. The slabs of crappie off that dock were amazing. Over the years and many floods, that dock and structure has moved so much. We even had amazing nights of catching carp off the dock.
