Caught my personal best hybrid on Labor Day Monday on CC. 24" and 6 lbs. First two hours of fishing didn't get a hit, almost quit, and went back and found some fish. Caught this on a #4 Mepps in about 18 FOW. I can also make fish look small. I'm 6' and 250 lbs.

Thanks to Dennis C. for all the information on Mepps, technique, and map of the lake.

I ended up with 2 more hybrids about 19-20" and 8 nice size white bass.

I used the Mepps technique and nothing for me. #3 size in white with red thread. Fished on and around the humps. I must have picked the wrong humps.

Thanks Dennis. And thanks for your reports and your video's and articles on using the Mepps lures. I've learned a lot from that and it's my method for fishing for the white and hybrid bass. We have a house in Enchanted Oaks and there's usually good fishing around the middle of the lake in that area. I'm one of the guys fishing off the front of a pontoon boat on the lake.

On Monday I actually fished with a gold #4 Mepps for 2 hours and got nothing. Switched to a white #3 and caught a couple real quick, but got hooked on a log and lost the lure (and I'm sure the fish were hanging around the log, that's why they were easy to catch!). I went back to the gold #4 and found the fish. They were moving around, but a nice size school and big ones. I caught these around spillway, rock pile, enchanted isle humps. Caught them all between 1-3:30pm. The wind on Monday seemed to help bunch them up, but I had to keep moving to find them.

Yes, I was fishing Spillway Hump Friday and found fish on top of it, but they were moving around so fast I couldn't stay on them. Clearly they were chasing shad around staying near the bottom rather than surfacing. I played a hunch and went to the north tip of the hump and found fish on the slope. These fish were associating with the structure - the slope - and not moving. So, I could park the boat and we sat there and caught fish til time to go.

#4 is the go to right now. If I can only find them with the feather attached, I cut it off. I never get bit as well with it on. 4 or 5 slow cranks and let it fall back down. Right now they will pick it up on the fall pretty often. 1/16th or 1/8th oz slpit shot 12" up the line to help it fall.

silver - though supposedly white, yellow and chartreuse work well as well.
