I'm new to the forum, and just getting back into bass fishing. My 2 boys are addicted to it right now, which is awesome! I'm looking for some info on some hot lakes right now I can take them to on weekends and catch a lot of fish, along with some quality fish. My boys are 10 & 12 and can fish baitcasters like champs. Thanks for any information!

dentdaddytx, first of all, welcome to the TFF. If you have ever done any extended amount of fishing of any kind, you should know that fishing success is not easy. A lake can be "hot" one week and dead the next. Patterns change with the seasons and the weather. It's not written in stone but most lakes are good for numbers or good for quality.

My favorite lake, Bastrop, is generally a numbers lake. The biggest fish I have ever caught there is a little over 6 pounds. If you read my last 2 posts, you'll know that I was skunked my last two trips there.

Lake Fork is pretty much considered a quality lake. I caught my biggest bass there, almost 9 pounds.

Speaking of "hot" lakes, Texas is blessed with numerous power plant lakes that generate hot water. These lakes are good for fishing in the Winter.

Where do you live? Fishing success usually means travel. Go to all of the online fishing forums and find out where and how fish are being caught.

Do you have a boat? Bank fishing is fine but it limits your ability to find fish.

If you stick around here long enough you will run into some good guys to point you in right direction. As of right now, nothing is going to be "HOT" early sept is tough most everywhere. Once fall kicks in just pick a lake and go get them, fall is one of the more predictable times to fish. Find the bait and you will find the bass somewhere near by. Another bit of advice get your boys involved in a local bass club, high school is good but until then and even while in high school get them involved in a local bass club where they can compete against and with guys that are experienced but not over serious or scared to help your boys out. I really enjoyed my time in the Arlington bass club fishing with my dad and grandad and even my brother. Some great memories were made and I sure learned allot fishing new lakes.

Let me point you in the right direction... take your boys to Squaw Creek and tie on a white/pearl bandit crank bait (2-5 foot diver), use 15 pound mono so it doesn't dive as deep as it can... once you launch the boat go right all the way back towards the creek area (can get map when you enter) and there is a large flat back there to your right just prior to the creek. Depth is 1-6 ft tops... throw at every lay down you see and along every stump and tree. You will catch numbers of bass in the 1.5 - 3 pound range with an occasional 4 pounder... but numbers are back there right now and that's the easiest way to catch them this time of year for me. I'm sure you can catch them deep and find some bigger bass, but that takes time to locate and so on... this is an easy pattern and you'll catch some huge drum at the same time.. fun to catch and they pull hard. I do have a bass boat, and our home lake is Lake Alan Henry. Alan Henry is a Great Lake for big bass, but is a very difficult lake to catch them. I've fished hard all day and caught no fish. I understand that's how it goes sometime, but Alan Henry is like that year round. I was looking for a good lake that maybe no one knows of much. I'm gonna try lake arrowhead up by Wichita Falls this weekend. Maybe it's a honey hole who knows hahaha. Thanks

Hubbard Creek is good for numbers but I go to Lake Amistad every chance I get. If you decide to take a trip down there I can get you started.
