I like research and you can share that information anyway you like as long as you are not using it as your own research.

I like the idea of those real big eyes on those jigs. Makes the head look like the shape of the tail of a crawfish with the claw trailers on the other end. Could be why football jigs seem to work well too.

Thanks for sharing sir. Good thoughts throughout the article. A quick question, that has no answer. Why does black/blue seem to work everywhere? I have seen craws with blue on them, but not to the extent that a black/blue jig normally has on it. I agree with your trailers, too, for the most part. GOOD read.

Tight lines, keep safe and good luck.

Mr. Rains, I have one picture that I really wanted to put up; but it would not load. Maybe it will give the link so we can open it. It is a Black/Blue Crayfish with a Dirty White underside.

I only used the color jigs that would mimic the Crays that I was trapping. Black/Blue got it's equal share of fishing time in the Winter months and then again at the end of the Summer when the mating season starts. Then as that ritual played out more and more of the reds and oranges begin to show up and the Blue almost diminished.

As you know, while fishing deep, once you get past that light penetration spectrum then the darker colors seem to work better; thus Black/Blue would be a good choice.

Thanks Donald.

Thanks for posting the video Ron. There is one small spot there that shows the Crayfish fleeing and the slow smooth pumping action that it takes. This makes me look at another bait that will also mimic the fleeing action and that is the Chatter Bait. With the side to side action it has along with the swimming presentation of the lift and fall it will produce some good bites. I can't wait to try the right colors on a Chatter Bait which will do a great job mimicking that roller coaster technique of a fleeing Cray.

As you watch the video there are two or three others that follow right behind Evading Big Bass that are excellent instructional videos on sound and color choices. Notice that most of these guys are using the scent to make it as real as possible.

Thanks Phototex. You should see these Chatter Baits with the 5 TX. Cray skirts. The trailer is the discontinued Mister Twister Craw Worm as pictured with the Jig on Page 1. It has no claws just 3 inch twisting tentacles. Two pumping action hops not letting it touch the bottom; then let it rest on the bottom. The living rubber skirting will keep moving at rest and as soon as the Bass feels no threat from claws she is going to eat it.

Good luck to all that are going to concentrate on the Crayfish spawn this fall.
Thanks,
Donald
