Don't know about the post with the kids, but the photo of hobby is fake....
Honestly, deeper draft bass boats may not work, the local news is now saying airboats, flat bottoms, etc.....

Please don't take your bass boat down there unless you KNOW exactly where your going or what your doing. That isn't really a place for a big boat and there are more underwater hazards than you could ever imagine. I've got several friends down there with surface, fan and jet drives and they have all told me that they've hit stuff or had to avoid floating stuff - like fire hydrants, guy lines and cars.......

I drove back from the Beaumont/Port Arthur area last night. Only go if you have an air boat or a flat bottom that is wide enough and with a large enough motor that will run SHALLOW. Air boats and wide shallow bow fishing rigs are needed more than anything. There are 100's of boats down there along side of the roads that are of no use right now.
If you have an air boat/wide shallow running flat bottom and can help. PM me and I will give you some details on how and what to do to be of the most support. Keep in mind, this situation will go on for days and it will get more and more serious as people are getting desperate. Don't go unarmed.

I just got back about 3:30 this morning. If anyone is already down there or in route perhaps look into rural areas north of Beaumont and Orange. Not sure what the flood waters are like today but the Neches wasn't expected to crest until today at 36', yesterday was at 34' I believe. We spent most of yesterday in the Lumberton and Kountze area. Heard as we was rolling out last night Newton County would be a hot area today and some of those rescues could require 10 mile boat runs. The currents are very swift and tricky trying to navigate and I wouldn't recommend anything under 40hp. Airboats in my opinion aren't very effective in these areas either, way too many obstacles. Can show you an example of where rescuer turned rescue and resulted in loss of airboat and caused electrocution of TPWD and State Police officer. Those guys had to be life flight by Coast Guard and hope they are alright. If you are going down there and want to know what to expect feel free to PM me. Wish I could have stayed one more day but had personal issue I just had to get back to.

I agree with what Kevin stated above. if you are going, you need a stable platform with enough motor to deal with current. The airboats are needed in Orange, Vidor and Port Arthur.....areas where you can run shallow streets back to deeper water areas but with enough room to navigate to get to people.
