Awesome! Enjoy your trip! I was told by a guy over at the fly shop that we picked one of the hardest times of the year to catch fish up there. It just happens to be the only time I could make it because I took summer classes all summer long and had a small window to drive up that way before the Fall semester starts. I was hoping to go during the week when nobody else would be around but it wouldn't work for my brothers so we made do with a Friday and the weekend. I'm looking forward to a return trip. I might find time to slip away for a fall trip if I can afford it. I'm eat up with fishing for trout. I like the challenge

You can see the red "cutts" under the cheek plate.

Summer is the best time to fish the high country water, and those meadows hold some trophy class fish, I remember hooking in to some 20+" fish up there. Once again awesome trip, don't believe that stuff about summer not being good, summer is the best time to go in my opinion.

Ah, okay cool, thanks for pointing that out. Picking this stuff up a little at a time.

I'd like to hang onto a 20+". I caught two smaller browns last summer around the same time, but I also caught one 20" brown. Didn't have a tape so i laid it across my net and marked its length in the wood, turned him loose, then measured when i got back to the truck. This go around I saw a huge brown in the meadows that would've probably gone 20+ but that thing was beyond easily spooked. I didn't ever even get a chance to really throw at it. My brother spooked him too trying to creep up on that same foam line. I have to get some better stalking skills and presentation skills!

Saw this post about the Conejos, brought back great memories of fishing and camping in Platoro area in the mid to late 70's with my Dad and brother. Loved that place.
My dad is 92 now and always says he would like to back one more time to Platoro so maybe we'll make it in the summer of 2018.
Thanks for sharing the post.
