The biggest decision I had to make prepping for a fishing trip was " do I throw the white or chartreuse H&H..."

Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways with a fishing rod in one hand, 10# LMB in the other, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and yelling "Wow! What a Ride!

betcha most folks do not know what an H&H is.....my favorite bait back in 60's and early 70's.....

when bass clubs started springing up,I joined one in Greenville,Ms probably in 1971......several months later,we scheduled a tournament against the Vicksburg bass club on Ross Barnett....I went out and bought another rod just like the one I had....a red 5000 ambassador reel with 5 1/2 ft True Temper glass rod.....my boater from Vicksburg had one of the skeeter stick steering bass boats with probably a 40 hp Merc ... he only had one rod and reel and complimented me on having matching rod and reels....

Dad kept the black H&H's to himself....... was his favorite and he didn't want me or brother breaking them off.

Three baits I used when I was a teenager in the 70's were the H&H in yellow and black, the Cotton Cordell Hot Spot and the Beetle spin. Not sure if you can get any of them now. We'd fish beetle spins in the tiny size and you'd never know what would bite. Everything from bluegill and crappie to a largemouth. I remember watching Virgil Ward's TV show where I think he used those exclusively. He even had an aquarium and showed the action of the lure close up. He was on the cutting edge of fishing shows. And, don't forget, Curt Gowdy's American Sportsman. I thought it was Academy Award material!

H&H spinners, jitter bugs and Mann's grape worms with the yellow curl tails is where it was at growing up.

Johnson beetle spin in orange or green, thing was about 1/2 the size of a cigarette but, and everything loved it! Used to wade a creek ( spring creek for the locals) with nothing but that tied on and a spare, used to catch white bass by the 100's

Back in the day, I was a Mitchell 300 kid. Didn't start throwing a baitcaster until 2000!

One of my favorite old sayings: "Remember when the GPS, fish finder, depth finder, radar and trolling motor were all wrapped up into one unit called Grandpa?"

Back in the 60's my dad was painting the Grayson County Jr. College and moved us up to Sherman/Dennison area for the summer. We would go fishing at Texoma. I remember watching those scholling sandbass running shad towards the bank. He would have us use minnows to catch the fish and I will never forget when we would run out of minnows he would take the pull tab off of a drink and wrap it around a hook. We would throw it out and reel it back in and that darting, flashing put together lure would still catch fish on our Ted Williams rod and reel combos.

Heck, I'm only 20 and when I was a young kid growing up and my grandpa and uncle taught me to fish, ALL I had were H&H's. That's all they threw so that's all I threw. We just fished on his little private tanks and man we caught fish all day long. I still have a few H&H's in the box and to this day they always murder fish in a pond. Don't think I've ever caught anything in a lake though. Getting into real fishing in the past year, that was the hardest thing to accept... There are MORE baits than H&Hs!!! Literally all I had as a kid.
