minnkota has built a product that 99% of the folks that have them are more than pleased and cannot produce them fast enough for the market motorguide builds great motor but does not have anything to compete with this product . there is always bugs in new products as long as people produce them it will always be this way. the great thing about this product if one purchases it an doesn't like it they wont lose any money when selling it not many products like this.

i am gonna call BS on the 1%. If that were the case, they would not be so far behind on delivery dates. i wonder how many thousands were recalled for the latest "foot switch" issue. I am going to have one, but lets be realistic... they rushed production and it backfired in their face. now they have a lot of junk parts on their hands. i am going to guess it is a Chinese supplied part.

and do not get me wrong.. I can not WAIT to get mine. I just hope it is NOT a $2500 boat anchor once I finally get one! Because it seems a LOT more than 1% have had that problem thus far.

They were on backorder almost from the day they were released, i seriously doubt that the reason you cannot get one is because they are too busy repairing them.

I don't think they rushed production, or my very early build Ultrex would be plagued with issues. I bought mine way back when they first came out, from Tackle Warehouse (before they sold out of their initial shipment). I think the best explication is they simply sourced some parts from a supplier that THE SUPPLIER wasn't able to produce in a way to make them reliable.

I say this as I have fallen victim to early adopting all kinds of new stuff. As far back as Betamax, Laser Disc, and the "DVD that will never last". Each time, I swore I'd wait. I even bought a 16:9 Toshiba "TheaterWide" tv back in 1989. My latest "latest greatest" perchase was a 2012 Jeep with "the good motor". What a total POS!! The company building the cylinder heads for the motor couldn't produce enough of them and keep quality on par. My Jeep had three new motors before 50k miles. Jeep tried to make it good by offering me a free lifetime warranty on the drivetrain, but I traded it for a Tundra.

Getting back to MK....I think they have a hit product, but currently do not have suppliers that can produce a quality board for them at a rate fast enough to keep up with consumer demand.

Update:
So I called Tackle Warehouse and they informed me my August 24 delivery date was now delayed into October. He said "it is the hottest item out there". I guess I was a bit grumpy in my conversation in that you'd assume they could inform about these constantly moving delivery dates. Anyway I asked that they cancel the order and refund which they did promptly. I went to Nautical Mile Marine where I purchased my boat in 2016 and they said they could likely have the motor in four days. I asked them to order it. They called later in the afternoon indicating UPS delivered to them an unaccounted for 36 volt/52" shaft/112 lb thrust Ultrex. I purchased it so now I have my trolling motor. Now I'll be able to tell you how good it is.

I saw somewhere that they had addressed the foot control and were sending some out for replacements. I wonder if they didn't hold back on the shipping new models until they get the new foot controls in to go with them. I'm hoping that they get them shipped out so that I can find a used ultra for sale

Excellent.

I hate back ordering stuff. If I'm paying today, it better at least ship same day. Glad you got one!

I really love my ultrex! The first ultrex I purchased had the frozen foot pedal! The customer service was outstanding I had a new ultrex with a new board for the foot pedal shipped within 4 days! They also upgraded my ultrex from the regular unit, to the link version free of charge! I am pleased with the new ultrex with h zero issues as of yet! This trolling motor now is the best investment I have bought for my boat!

Will the Ultrex follow a 20 ft. contour without a Humminbird unit?

not on its own. But , it can after you do it once and save the trail.

If he doesn't have hummingbird, what's the number of trails he can save to the unit? I forgot. If it were me I'd buy an older cheap hummingbird and link it just so you'd have the extra features if you will use them.

I think it can save 12. But, since I only have two saved trails and a dozen spot locks and didn't REALLY read the manual, I cannot be certain.
