If Harvey drops several inches of rain across South Texas will "the authorities" do what they always do and release it all out of Choke Canyon?

The authorities being the city of Corpus Christi, and yes, they will. Lake Mathis is a little over 4' low, so pretty much any water that choke gets will go to fill Mathis, which will then be pissed away keeping grass green in corpus, unless they both somehow get filled up during this storm.

Use some common sense, if it fills Choke it will also fill Mathis. The lakes actually doing pretty decent considering the drought it's had around it.

This rain needs to go the uvalde direction to make a impact though.

And obviously I'm being very optimistic about it filling choke, but it can happen if it goes the right direction.

Mathis ought to get more than Choke does; it's closer to the middle of the projected path (right now). Mathis is smaller than Choke, too (18K acres vs. 25K acres), so it takes a little less to make an impact on Mathis.

Wouldn't that depend more on watershed than surface acreage?

Mathis is in a better watershed area, Choke has a tiny recharge zone. As usual it's not looking good for Choke.

When Choke was built, it was predicted to take up to 10 years to fill. At least that what we heard when I lived in Corpus back then.

We got a bunch of rain along with a Tropical Storm and it will it up from half ish full to having to let water out.

It needs to rain up around Uvalde by design, but when the storm filled it back in the day, it was local rain. I think Sinton a few miles south got 12 inch in a few hrs. I can't remember how much it right on top of Choke but it was a pile. Hasn't done it since.

Thanks, Billy

If I knew Mathis (Lake CC), Choke and Falcon would keep good water levels for the next few years, I'd have a for sale sign in the front yard of my House in Rayburn Country tonight!!!

Thanks, Billy

Looks like Mathis and choke have a good shot at a tremendous rainfall amount.

They better open the flood gates wide open, or better yet just blow up the Choke Canyon dam right now. Gotta get that water downstream to the estuary and let it flow into the Gulf!

No where for it to go with 6-10ft storm surge and 20+ inches if rain over 3 days continuesly. Somebody's going to be seriously flooded.

I can only imagine how the fishing will be at Choke if we get 10+ ft. of water in the new growth.
