 fixing the old ride

I am keeping my old truck while longer. Would like input on where to get replacement front end parts [tie rods, a arm, idler arm, etc. CHU CHU posted a company that should try fogot name .CHU IF you read this help me out. I have looked at rock auto, bfore. THANKS for any imput guys. KEEP line tight.

Dont know the best place to purchase, but I would go with Moog brand! Stay away from cheap stuff!

Is there a noticable noise associated with the front end stuff ? My 98 Ram 1500 had developed a very noticable thump in the front end, nothing out of the way in the steering, happens when hitting road bumps, looks like the motor mounts are still healthy.

Moog are good parts, but if your just getting an extra 50 or 100k miles out of your old beater I wouldn't wast the extra money on them, and they will cost twice or more what factory parts would.

To check ball joints jack tire up and grab top and bottom (12 and 6 on a clock) and push in on bottom/out on top and vice versa. If there is play then you need ball joints. Repeat at left and right sides of tire (3 and 9 on clock) if there is play you have tie rod/idler pitman arm problems.

It may not be text book but with a little common sense it will get you where you need to go. If your bearings have that much play its time for them to go too. Has worked in the past at correctly diagnosing tie rods and ball joints for me.
Do your front tires show any abnormal wear? Goofy tire wear on the fronts would be a good sign.

Both of you are right on checking ball joints for wear! Just hafta wiggle them too see if you have wear, unless its a Dodge, then wait till they start squeaking! Lol...Trebor, check the sway bar links... The little rubber bushings at the end of your sway bar! Pretty common!

Really, the only indicator I see or hear is a loud metallic thump when I hit road bumps, like two solid pieces of steel hitting togather.
