We're headed down for a short weekend trip to Rockport, looking to hit the specs hard as we've heard they've been good in the surf. I picked up some down south lures and some spec rigs and of course popping corks and live bait rigs. Any advice would be appreciated

You're gonna have to make some mighty long casts to hit the surf from Rockport....best get with Grinder55 and let him take you on a wade trip.

The driving force and secret desire of every bass fisherman, is to one day be a crappie fisherman............Could it be that the good Lord just smilies and looks the other way when a fisherman tells a lie?

I grew up in the area and fished a lot between Rockport and Aransass Pass.
Will be fishing a bit this week in Rockport with an old friend, will report back.

He told me today that the water was low and there were a million school trout.

When do you think it will go up?
Storm coming up from the south might push some water in?

I hope you've seen the weather forecast for the weekend. There's a "Cloud With A Name" headed our way(Harvey), supposed to make landfall late Friday. We're lashing everything down, except the kayak. That's what I use yo go see my neighbors in a flood.

Been on vacation for a bit TroyKing and looking forward to doing some serious wade fishing after ol' Harvey gets through doing it's thing.

Yes, tides have been low with little velocity, but that is the nature of the beast this time of year due to astronomical conditions.

That is until we get some fresh SaltH2O from the gulf, with decent oxygen levels, via a tropical depression and in some cases a hurricane. Anything short of that we wait on the fall equinox bull tides.

There are some spots that will really pay off after any bad weather from Harvey is through and the shallow saltwater temps have dropped.

We went to Rockport yesterday to check on our RV. Our trailer is the only one of 13 undamaged. I tied it down with chains and earth anchors, and it stayed put and didn't get hit by trees or other debris. Preparation and luck combined.

Rockport is a real mess! It will be years before it's restored. Weeks until power and water are back on. At 11PM Friday night, the Rockport tide station reported 105 MPH wind, twenty minutes later, it was ZERO! That was the eye of Harvey. The big dry stack buildings at Cove Harbor are shredded. Visible signs of many tornados. Thousands of boats damaged. Rockport Harbor Marina did very well, except for the boats tied next to the seawall.

I brought my kayak and flats skiff to Harlingen, so I'm going fishing when the winds lays down. My buddy in Houston said his brother in Houston is fishing out his front door!

Visited an old friend in Key Allegro last Wednesday when I was there, he found out his and his brother's homes were spared. Same with my two cousins, one lives there, one is a vacation spot, they both were spared. Waiting to get status on my boat in Port O'Conner.

Not all of Rockport has been spared.

This is one of my Little Leaguers Dad. I have always loved his family and feel the pain they are going through because of Hurricane Harvey.

Seth, his son, was a dang good athlete and of my favorite young ones to have the privilege to Coach through the years and he was also on my 18-0 Astros team back in 2002, bottom row - 2nd from right.

This event has touched peoples lives in so many ways and my heart aches for those who have had their lives, pets and property in harms way.

Hey Pat, how did Sea Drift fair? I was down in Rockport this week and like others have said - it will be years before some normalcy comes back. I don't know much about fishing post hurricane but it hurt my heart to see it that way.

Some places got flattened. Some got some damage some breezed through.

We are very fortunate that no structural damage to the house. Next door neighbor got hit hard and we lost seven trees that had to be taken out.

Still no power thank goodness for Salvation Army they are true angels.
