I seen a kayak in Walmart for $259.00 I am so tempted to get it anybody have any info on them.
Should I buy it just so I can get on the water or should I pass ?

In most cases 500-700 is a good price for a decent kayak. I have seen cheeper deals out there but most below that are yaks i would avoid.

In kayaking, you truly get what you pay for. When you're on the water often and for long hours, you're gonna regret the cheap one.

However, if you don't use it frequently or higher priced options don't fit the budget, go for it!

Likely an uncomfortable seat and a minimal weight capacity that you'd be pushing. Check craigslist or other kayak forums for used ones.

The comments above are spot on. Just save up a few more bucks. That Walmart junk, as mentioned above, will be uncomfortable, have a lower capacity, and will be thin, cheap plastic. For another $400-$500 you can get something that is actually fishable and comfortable, and something you won't regret buying after your first few hours on the water.

I would recommend keeping an eye on Craigslist or even letgo or any of the other purchase apps... I brought my first kayak new and have subsequently purchased five additional kayaks (combined) for less than I paid for my first kayak. On average I paid no more than $300 for each of them, granted most of these have been touring (sit in) kayaks, but bargains are certainly out there but you have to be patient and quick because from what I have seen fishing kayaks tend to keep their price better than other kayaks and when bargains appear they tend to get grabbed up pretty quick. In fact, I just picked up a Wilderness Systems Tarpon for less than $100, but I had to drive to east Tx to get it.

That said, the best kayak that you can buy is the kayak that allows you to get out on the water. You may find that one kayak does something(s) better than other kayaks, but at the end of the day if a kayak allows you to get on the water and allows you to have a good time what more do you really need?

Like I said about I have a fleet of kayaks, and while I enjoy each of them in their own way but my go to kayak is not the fastest, or the prettiest or necessarily the most comfortable one that I own, but the one that is easiest for me to carry and load.... and more importantly unload, all that other stuff is gravy or icing on the cake.

What I'm trying to say is that if that is all your budget allows, then get it and enjoy it after all at the end of the day isn't that really what kayak fishing is really all about?
